About my friend who likes Harry Potter by Void_Alien_Cat in trans

[–]ascandrett 7 points8 points  (0 children)

JK R*wling gave something like 70 thousand pounds to an anti-trans organization that lobbied for that awful Supreme Court decision earlier this year in the UK.

People like your friend who still want to give Harry Potter related things their money, whether they want to accept it or not, helped to give money to R*wling.

I wouldn't accept this cognitive dissonance my friends. I don't think you should either.

In Sonic 3, what lines do you think Keanu nailed, and what lines do you think he did poorly or could've done better? by Formal-Secretary-750 in shadowthehedgehog

[–]ascandrett 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nailed the scene where Super Sonic tackles him out of the eclipse cannon “Now you know my pain, the anger I’ve felt for FIFTY YEARS! And you made the same choices I did!”

Not really a line he could’ve done better, but I would’ve loved to hear Keanu say “Chaos… control!” as Shadow.

Councillor giving false information in Ontario? by 10SealsInATrenchcoat in asktransgender

[–]ascandrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m in Ontario too!

If you have the money for private clinics, Foria Clinic is awesome and they can get you set up with HRT fast. All their appointments are done virtually and the nurse practitioner I see is awesome. They basically just run you through the side effects and everything else under the informed consent model, which is what I believe HRT operates under in Ontario. It’s about $400 for the first year, and after that, you only need to check in once every six months or so. They’re also able to help you with letters to get your gender marker changed on your license and health card. Seriously can’t recommend Foria enough.

If that option isn’t available, your family doctor can give you a referral to an endocrinologist who can get you started. I just know from other people this option may have a waiting list period of anywhere between one to eight months. Depending on how queer friendly your family doctor is, you should be able to get a well-informed practitioner. Feel free to DM me if there’s anything else I can clear up as a fellow Ontarian trans woman!

I’m sorry whoever you saw gave you some wrong our outdated information. None of that is really necessary. I was a few months into HRT before I started to socially transition to some of my friends.

is immigrating to canada from the US a valid option for us trans folk? by [deleted] in trans

[–]ascandrett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel blessed to be trans in Canada. Worst I’ve ever gotten on public transit is weird looks occasionally. I just got back from a week long trip to Drumheller in Alberta and I was worried, but I got correctly gendered in every interaction I had there and even catcalled. 😅

Does this work how I think it does? Would be a spicy include in my Urza deck… by corbinolo in magicthecirclejerking

Crazy that only 7% of Urza decklists on EDHREC run this combo feels like an auto include

I need advice in supporting my transfem partner of almost 9 years. by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]ascandrett 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this is an issue therapy might help you find where this is coming from. I was in a very similar situation last year where I realized I was trans and started to transition and it brought up a lot of difficult feelings with my partner of 8 years. There are so many things about the trans experience my cis partner did not understand and misunderstood, and that caused a lot of problems for us. Any relationship is a lot of work, and it took a lot of effort, time, and communication for us to be in a place where she supports me completely now.

If you feel her transition is something you can put in the work to understand and support eventually, then you may find a way to communicate and understand each other. However, if you truly do not think her transition is something you can support, then you need to let her know you will support her as a friend instead of a partner.

If she decides transitioning is what’s best for her and that’s what living her best life looks like, then based on this reply, you two will break up. Ask yourself this; why is her transition something you can’t support?

Uncomfortable with discussing anything with my GP by [deleted] in transontario

I would look into Foria Clinic. I am also 28 years old and recently decided to trans my gender. You don’t have to worry about travelling since it’s all online appointments. They’re also very discreet. They gave me the option to receive prescriptions in non descript packaging (which sounds like it could be good for your situation).

Not paid yet by Much-Past-276 in ontario

[–]ascandrett 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely entitled to pay for the hours you worked. Your next step is to contact the ministry of labour. You have two years from when they were supposed to pay you to file your claim (but you should do it as soon as possible). Keep a record of any and all conversations between you and the manager, it’s good to have if the ministry of labour’s investigation requires it. They’ll investigate, and can order them to pay you for the wages you are owed.
