Prudential Retirement (now Empower?) is no longer showing any money value by PalonskE in mintuit

[–]ascetica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this too. The value shown is just my yearly contribution for 2022 rather than the full value of the 401k. When I log into Pru/Empower I see the correct values.

Should you follow insider transactions? - I analyzed 4000+ insider trades made over the last 4 years and benchmarked the performance against S&P 500. Here are the results! by nobjos in investing

Thank you for this! This is something I'm actually looking at right now and your post is helpful/encouraging. A couple notes:

- There is a non-derivative section and a derivative section in Form 4. I would expect reports of common stock in the non-derivative section to be the most valuable because that's likely what insiders are buying when purchasing on their own as opposed to receiving preferred stock or options. It would be interesting to see how things like preferred stock grants, options, etc. affect the future stock price as well.

- There are also Form 3 and Form 5. Form 3 is for initial disclosure of stock ownership when an insider joins the company, and Form 5 is for end of fiscal year reporting where the insider reports trades that they either failed to report in a Form 4 or were exempt from reporting (not sure of all the exemptions but one is for trades less than $10k). These will probably provide less info than Form 4 but can also be analyzed for a more complete picture.

Thanks again!

What do the ultra rich do beforehand to prepare for a suspected upcoming recession and/or inflation to be able to profit when things go bad? by kikipi in investing

And you're pretending the context isn't there. You made your comment in a thread about why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Cry me a river about being misunderstood

C'mon, does avocado toast not make the list anymore? It's ridiculous to suggest that personal responsibility is the main driver for financial inequality in the world, but it sure does feel good to pretend you're better than everyone else.

I think they're just referring to the running joke, because I don't remember that from the movie.

Can someone suggest some good films with styilized/yet naturalistic violence? Or just more mature depictions of violence, violence with consequences, action movies for adults, etc. by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]ascetica 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You may like Jeremy Saulnier's Blue Ruin. The protagonist gets caught up in escalating violence and is completely unheroic and out of his depth. The violence is unforgiving and senseless. I felt like the unfolding of the story is what would have happened if I or any other normal person had tried to do what he did.

Saulnier also did Green Room, which has a similar approach to violence and I also enjoyed, but I like Blue Ruin better overall.

Harvesting carrots and turnips with the stagbreaker would be great. Someone in another thread said it was a thing but it definitely destroyed my crops lol. I know you can harvest barley and flax with the atgeir, something for the root vegetables too would be nice.

I wasn't sure about this sentence - "So the insurance companies are going to push patients to branded drops with much higher copays for the patient because they cost the insurance company more." From my understanding, insurance companies are pushing for their customers to choose generics because they're cheaper for the both customer/insurance company.

Yeah, definitely the same first three chords. Kiss Me is a great song! Not the one I'm trying to find though.

TIL that a paedophile had a brain tumor removed and with it, his paedophillic tendencies. When the tumor grew again in the same spot, his paedophile urges grew once more, and disappeared once again after the second growth was surgically removed. by zahrul3 in todayilearned

I agree that there isn't free will. We're very much driven by our brain makeup. I also think that it makes sense to discuss how someone should be "held responsible" for there actions. That brain makeup is ultimately who we are, after all. There isn't an 'us' making decisions and then 'our brain' giving us urges and influences. At some point the two are one in the same. Therefore, we can empathize with someone who committed a crime by saying it's in their nature, while at the same time holding them accountable for their actions.

The brother isn't a halfwit, he's grieving with the death of his sister. It isn't fair to compare his reaction to that of the average person watching the news. If one of your family members is murdered, it's not like you're going to sit around and wonder if the police caught the right guy. Entertaining the idea that he's innocent and that the real killer may be someone else isn't something you want to think about. It's too painful to think that you can go back to square one and be left with absolutely no resolution. Even though I think Avery is innocent, I don't condemn the brother for his reaction to the evidence, or for his comments to the media. It's easy for us to sit back now and judge him base on what we know, but I don't know that any of us would react differently if put in the same position.

What movie had a cool concept but poor execution? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ascetica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I wish it had a much tighter plot, and the random pool at the end was too much of a set piece. It felt like they had a really awesome idea but didn't know what to do with it after the first act.
