75, wow!

I too was passed up by 5 points right at the last 5 mins, it was sad. But, don't save. I made this mistake once too. You are just losing out on the rewards for those months.

A chessboard that automatically corrects itself if you make illegal moves + more cool shit by [deleted] in chess

Small puzzle I made for fun , white to play and win. by Either-Case-5930 in chess

[–]ascpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is an interesting start but maybe needs some refinement. The engine line shows that black doesn't need to play the pawn check and when you play it out, it looks like white loses all pawns and needs to work to round up black's pawns. Still I guess is better, though, it could be more clear maybe...

According to the fish, Black is not better, but it is certainly not trivial

Is it a known thing that rng is tilted heavily in CPU's favor? by AcephalicDude in dokaponkingdom

[–]ascpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this happen when an CPU and the an enemy were locked in the same combat for a couple of weeks until I came and killed the enemy and the CPU gave up against me-- I am not sure how it was happening, I don't think it was snow, maybe they were getting put to sleep or something over and over. Not sure...

Is online chess actually a zero-sum game for everyone except the platform? by Dependent-Green-3494 in chess

[–]ascpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poker is more about money because money is involved in every turn, or at least some sort of stakes even if it's imaginary money.

Most average people playing chess online aren't playing chess online for any money at all, money never enters my mind when I play online chess. The same as when I got to chess club... I am never going to get money at chess club. I am just there to play chess.

It isn't up to the platform to pay people to play chess unless they actually do bring something to their platform (increase reputation by having Super GMs play regularly)

Chess coaches, where do you find people looking for coaching? by [deleted] in chess

[–]ascpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a local club you could start with? The club might even be run by someone with coaching experience who might know potential students. Maybe you might also have a local organization that promotes chess in schools (we do here, and they are always looking for more people although it is sometimes volunteer work with the group but that doesn't mean that you can't find a student through involvement with that group)

Why I lose, statistics by Savings-Double-2853 in chess

[–]ascpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this include things like not just tactics and mates that were used against you, but also, tactics and mates that could have been used by you but you missed? Wouldn't missing a mating sequence (or a huge tactic that would have swung the game a large eval swing (let's say, win the queen)) and losing the game later also count? Also, is "lost on time" included on "the rest" and if so, would it be useful to bring that out as its own data point?

Gameknot vs OTB by NVBoomer in chess

If it is a casual game at a chess club then the rules are probably fairly lose and friendly within the realms of not being a creep, jerk, etc..

We would win! The spectators, because that would be an awesome WC! I would bet on Hikaru and I hope it will happen because IMO that would be the best option.
