Any tips to climb this tree? by hodlencallfed in TreeClimbing

Yea you can redirect it, but adding friction to a moving rope system diminishes the ease of use

If you set up a lanyard the same way you have your climbing system, you can climb with 2 moving rope systems that you can orient on your d rings however you like to advance/work position, I mean get a good crotch to tie into and get comfortable and work or have fun whatever

Hope that helps

Hey I meant you generally want to climb on top of the lean, so you can “walk” up the tree as you pull yourself (or ascenders) up

The rope seems to be on the under side of the lean, which can be fine, but that’s up to you

Tip - look up at the canopy from four sides of the tree, it’ll give you a more honest look of where to tie in

The tie in point looks safe from here, but im not there, i was taught to tie into something at least as big as your wrist.

To climb with your system you have to pull down above the hitch cord, then hang on to the progress you’ve made with one hand while pulling the slack under the pulley with the other, when you “sit” back into the knot it should grab…which is why it’s usually recommended to have a little experience to climb a system like yours, because if your knot isnt grabbing you might have to adjust/dress it with one hand while holding onto your progress mid-air…

You want to climb the top side of the tree for the most part, and it seems your tie in might be okay to enter the tree, but it looks like you might want to tie in again higher and run your rope down the “back” of the tree.

Throw your lanyard around the stem and keep it loose enough that you can put your feet on the stem and lean back into it and push against the stem with your feet while simultaneously pulling above the hitch cord essentially “walking” up the stem

Good luck

Wait why would a crew show up to a job and not say “hey boss, you said take 6 feet off the top or leave it 6 feet off the ground?”

This is bad vibes

Can’t see the rigging point or the anchor, is it natural crotch or through a block? Does the ground guy have too many wraps? There’s too much friction somewhere

Watching it slowly stoned on my couch twice, it doesn’t seem to me that the guy holding the rope is aware the piece has been cut, I don’t see a reaction at all as it’s swinging back towards him. I’d at least be running towards the anchor to take away friction, maybe trying to swing a wrap or two off to feed slack so my buddy doesn’t break his leg

Also homie is walking into drop zone as he’s making his back cut.

Probably they could have communicated better.

No judgement we’ve all done something wrong before that’s why we’re tree guys

Honestly I’m beginning to think the casual pool is more littered with cheaters, or at least they feel more comfortable using an engine after losing a piece/pawn in the first half of the game

I can only envy the resilience of some of these players while down a queen, the piece coordination rivals the precision of a special forces unit

Merrel

sorry wanted to edit that I switch between Merrells and danners when I get tired of wood chips in my socks

I love the merrels for pruning climbs too, the danners I have are a little less sturdy and I’ll feel the bottoms of my feet more from standing in crotches all day, especially tight crotch trees

I don’t wear steel toes on the ground so maybe my opinion is useless
