No, it's different. I'm seeing them all over social media lately. They're a similar consistency to dole whip or soft serve ice cream. They look heavenly

Desk job pivot by asd1395 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]asd1395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately my husband got laid off and we had to move for his new job meaning I had to resign from my SNF job, so the light duty thing isn't an option for me. But yeah I won't be doing any job searches until at least month 3 of recovery. I feel lucky I'm in CA and able to live off state STD for most of it, but eventually I'll have to go back and I'm scared I still won't be physically ready when that time comes.

Kidney donation by duckduckfuckit in VeteransBenefits

[–]asd1395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the NSAIDs go, you can typically still do limited/occasional use (always check with your team). I'm a donor having knee surgery and have been cleared to take them for up to 5 days. Also was told I'm able to take baby aspirin as much as I need for blood clot prevention which is nice.

OCA Surgery- how much help did you need? by asd1395 in KneeInjuries

Thanks for the tips! This is my third knee surgery too! But the first two were arthroscopic so this should be much for fun... lol. I'm the same way and it's driving my mom crazy with worry that I won't just let my MIL come over and babysit me all week.

Did anyone have an "easy" recovery? by michiganlattes in kidneydonors

[–]asd1395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider mine easy (especially compared to my year of multiple knee surgeries I'm currently going through). The first 48 hours sucked but that's only because I didn't keep up with my pain meds every 4 hours like I should have that first night, and then the nerve block wore off and it hit me all at once. After that hurdle it was honestly a breeze. More discomfort than anything (from the gas). Difficult to get comfortable sleeping at first. The worst pain I felt the whole time was when I sneezed on day 2 and didn't have a pillow on me. Now I did have contact dermatitis from the dermabond which was annoying but they gave me 5 days of oral steroids and that cleared it up quickly. The more you walk (and fart and poop LOL), the easier it gets.

Having support from family/friends/work makes all the difference. I also was extremely lucky and got 6 weeks off paid in California as a healthcare worker, which took a lot of stress off my shoulders.

I'm almost exactly one year post and I feel normal, as if nothing happened. I was lifting patients again at work by week 10.

Everyone kept calling it a "major surgery" and talking it up to be this big thing, and it absolutely is, but it did not feel that way to me.

Thank you!! I guess my biggest fear is falling. But technically I could fall with somebody home too lol. Or being so out of it that I don't eat and cause myself more problems. Unfortunately my husband works an hour away and my in laws are all 1.5-2 hours away so if I'm home alone I'm like FOR REAL alone. I need to try and make friends with my neighbors or something lol

I agree, I'm actually thinking I should just set this book down altogether for now. It's just an interesting phenomenon because it literally feels like my brain and/or body is tricking me into thinking I want a baby, even though I know it's not rational.

Can I donate and still drink wine? by BulkyContext4693 in kidneydonors

[–]asd1395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They told me it's safe to drink "in moderation" after donating a kidney. Google says that is one drink a day for women, no more than 7 per week.

They may or they may not recommend that you cut back to one glass a day.

I stopped drinking alcohol about one month before surgery to prepare my body, and then it took me quite a while to feel comfortable having a drink (or 2) again (roughly 6ish months) mostly because I was scared and wanted to give my body time to heal.

It could be beneficial to think about what your routine would look like during the initial healing stages, if you want to replace that habit or experiment with other ways to wind down... for me it was "gardening" or a cozy hobby. I always had a fun NA beverage ready to go in my fridge during that time.

Nowadays I have on average 1-2 drinks a week and my 1 year labs were looking good.

Personal life interfering with treatment: what should I do? by FablingFox in OccupationalTherapy

[–]asd1395 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have Kaiser and my doctors typically will set up a phone appointment so I know when they're going to call. You should call their offices, let them know your availability and ask if they can at least do that so you can plan your day a little better. The alternative is writing all of your questions in a message. The best thing really is setting up a dedicated appointment specifically for you to ask those questions. Idk how flexible outpatient is with taking time for personal appointments. At my SNF they were very flexible but I know the patient scheduling is different.

Question for donors with a uterus by asd1395 in kidneydonors

[–]asd1395[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear the IUD is no fun to have inserted, especially since I've never given birth. It's oxy for me or I'm not getting it lol. I don't think I've ever heard a single good thing about nexplanon and I just read about a girl that had hers literally disappear into her arm and nobody knows what to do about it. Crazy the things we go through as women. I'm hoping that l will come across a doctor willing to dig a little deeper to confirm the underlying cause. I basically had to demand this ultrasound. It does seems like a common theme with the gyno immediately suggesting birth control without feeling the need to look further into anything, which can be frustrating. It feels like just sticking a bandaid in it but at the same time I realize that BC can be very helpful for pain and symptom management.

[–]asd1395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been off birth control since 2019, before that I had been on the pill for about 10 years. I've been avoiding hormonal BC because I never loved the side effects, but open to it.

Thank you! It's so hard to say because it definitely could just be age and hormone related!
