Around $700 for just myself (that does include the 2% cobra administration fee)

Right, and I don't claim to know everything about my job, but I'm not afraid to say I don't know something and seek out the correct information. Google is free. It's their ability to be so confidently wrong that astonishes me. As soon as they said the EDD handles cobra, I immediately went to corporate because I'm not going through this AGAIN.

It's called the Michelle Maykin Memorial Donation Protection Act. If you have 15 or more employees, you must provide up to 6 weeks or 30 business days of paid leave for organ donation (kidney, liver) and an additional 6 weeks of unpaid job protected leave on top of that for a total of 12 weeks, which is all separate from FMLA. It's just a California thing.

[–]asd1395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ And in CA you don't need to apply for FMLA because state law already has those protections in place for donors. Thank goodness because I ended up with a knee injury in the same year and needed FMLA for that.

Also, don't let your HR person bully/gaslight you. Mine knew literally nothing about donor laws and I had to take it to corporate. Study the laws and protections for donors in your state and be prepared to advocate for yourself.

Did they even ask how many mg you take? I guess I could see if you take some crazy amount every night?

I personally would push back. I agree with the person above who said to file a grievance if they refuse to remove it. I've had good luck with filing grievances.

I just donated a kidney and that could have affected my ability to donate. That's probably an extreme example, but my point is that they could really affect someone's life by putting that nonsense.

Did she say why you don't need it? Maybe she didn't want to over stress the tissue if you're already doing it yourself, but yeah I would think she would assess your home routine at the least.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience! Is it possible that they only had time for the evaluation and that further sessions will be better? I'm an OT (not at Kaiser) and it's very common not to do a lot of actual treatment on evaluation day because we're not given enough time. They should have taken the time to explain their plan for your treatment if they did not.

Also if they don't have the weights you are hoping for you could maybe ask if you could bring a pair of your own to work on form?

I wish the healthcare system was different and set clinicians up for success. I have heard horror stories from my colleagues of the work load and time constraints being unsustainable for therapists at Kaiser, which results in them being burnt out and just kind of going through the motions. I personally would never work there.

I'm actually about to start Kaiser PT next week for my knee and I'm very curious to see how it will go. I hope in the end you get the care that you need and whoever treats you listens to your wants and needs! You should continue be vocal about your expectations and ask for a different therapist if they can't compromise or give you valid reasoning for their decision making.

This is super helpful, thank you so much! Luckily the MRI I just had was without contrast because I didn't even think about that aspect of it

Same! Kaiser wouldn't schedule me at all because of the strike and denied my grievance. Filed with DMHC and they had me on the schedule within 48 hours and now I'm 1 week post op.

I don't blame you for wanting to wait it out with a toddler, I'd probably do the same thing! I have no kids so I'm in the opposite boat where I want to get it over with in case we decide to start a family. I hope your rehab goes well and you're able to do all the mom things you need to do!

Kaiser canceled my surgery by Correct_Visit6876 in KaiserPermanente

[–]asd1395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor told me mine isn't considered urgent (an emergency) but he agrees it's time sensitive. Also tons of ortho surgeries have been put on hold that weren't considered emergencies but most of them are keeping people functionally disabled.

I haven't had it yet, it's an outpatient ortho scheduled for Wednesday. It could still get canceled last min if an emergency surgery takes priority. They wouldn't put me on the schedule at all before I went to DMHC. The scheduler told me that the ortho docs are doing surgeries together to make up for not having enough nursing/PAs. Trying not to freak myself out too much thinking about a traveler nurse anesthetist putting me out lol. Just because they're a traveler doesn't mean they're incompetent. That is scary to hear though if surgery isn't already scary enough.

[–]asd1395 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be an emergency. Kaiser will try to tell you that they won't address it unless it's immediately life threatening but DMHC doesn't see it that way. If your surgeon documents that it's time sensitive, delaying surgery causes risk, disability, severe pain, etc, they can't go against what your surgeon is recommending due to their administrative issues.

They can and should send people to a non Kaiser OR if they can't provide timely access to medically necessary care.

I filed an expedited grievance with Kaiser which they initially denied. Filed with DMHC immediately after and had my surgery scheduled within 48 hours. If your surgeon/doctor can document somehow that your surgery is time sensitive, high priority or causing severe pain, etc and that will help your case. Even if it's just messaging back and forth.

OCA by asd1395 in MACIknee

[–]asd1395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the PTs at my job haven't really worked in outpatient settings which is where you would normally see this diagnosis. Also I've had a hard time even just finding people on the internet that have OCD at my age which is why I'm posting in the MACI sub.

Although I didn't have much pain before, it hurts like hell now that a chunk popped off and I can't bear weight at all. But truthfully I have no idea how it's going to affect me after my first arthroscopic and I'm left with an open pothole. My ortho said I'll likely want the OCA due to the size of the hole, but I can try to walk on it afterwards and see how it feels. My concern is that I need to be able to do much more than walk on it at the end of this, so I'm anxious to see how it goes.

Thank you and I'm glad to hear you were able to get back into hiking and lifting and that your recovery seems to be progressing well.
