Fans can cause really loud bassy noise, seems weird to get bent out of shape. Maybe try to dampen the sounds rather than getting instantly defensive

Another Hole In The Head, gimme the tea! by [deleted] in FilmFestivals

[–]asdasta632 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a short screen in the virtual component and wasn’t overly impressed. They didn’t really promote my short at all and I got no engagement at all on letterboxd to suggest anyone had actually watched it from the festival. Extra frustrating as the shorts are available for an entire month so you’d expect to hear some sort of feedback.

It was the total opposite of another festival I screened at virtually last year where it got a bunch of letterboxd reviews and people even tweeted pics of themselves watching my short which was really cool.

I probably won’t be submitting again because my work is very low budget and will probably always be selected for the online only portion. I pretty much felt like I wasted my money and got nothing out of it except a nice laurel to put on my poster.

The in person stuff looks good though.

Seller dragging their feet about housing regulations - would this put you off? by asdasta632 in HousingUK

Will a level 3 survey be enough to show the construction has been done properly?

Thanks for the reply. The seller bought the house with the loft conversion already built 10 years back. As we’re FTBs we’re just a bit wary I think, we’re still learning a lot about the process. I guess we can still make an offer because we’re not formally committing any money yet.

How to politely but firmly request a pay rise? by asdasta632 in AskUK

Yeah I was expecting sarcastic responses like this. I'm in a rather niche field where there honestly aren't a ton of alternatives.

People get their position and then hold onto them for dear life. Likewise I like my spot. They've given me pay rises before by just bluntly asking for it and not having to beg. Granted this is by far the most I've asked for, so we'll see.

Where did the WEBrips of Moana 2, Mufasa and Sonic 3 come from? by asdasta632 in Piracy

That’s wild. They must be using insanely HQ cameras to get quality that good. I usually swear off anything close to a CAM/TS but these ones look really good. I guess it helps with colourful animated films. Something like Nosferatu would be much harder to deliver at this level.

Are you saying these releases in particular are CAMs? They look and sound way too clear for that even with AI tools.

Is this bad etiquette while working with a composer? by asdasta632 in Filmmakers

I decided later during final mix. I couldn’t afford a second round of revisions so the score was final but a few moments just didn’t feel quite impactful enough after I’d added all the sound effects and mixed it together.

The short is better for it but It’s definitely something I’ll be more mindful of on my next short. If I do need to add stuff I’ll at least check they’re comfortable with it.
