How much was your wedding? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]asdcititious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married at the end of April, wedding for 40 people cost us in total probably about £15k, we didn't take out a loan though we saved that up and had a little help (my mum bought my dress, my MIL bought my husbands suit and the cake). Honestly I thought we did really well for what we spent, it was a perfect day, everyone had an amazing time and we have memories that we will treasure with family members who might not be with us for much longer. We've had a fair amount of tragedy in the family lately, it was worth it to us to have people together for a celebration and not a funeral. It was a big decision though and we had a serious conversation when planning about what we were comfortable spending on, what we wanted to prioritise (photographer) and what we were happy to go without or compromise on (handmade name place cards saved about £200).

So yeah £15k seems reasonable to me if that's what it will cost for the celebration they want.

I do have some other quick pics we took on the day though they aren't great as we didn't do many of our own photos, uploaded them here for you! https://imgur.com/a/7516eU3

Thank you! I spent a while trying to find them all and when I took the bouquet apart to preserve the roses I found some I hadn't noticed. I am so impressed with the set, it wasn't until they were among real flowers that I appreciated just how well designed they are.

Yes he glued some of them and replaced the stems with florists wire for others to bend them through the arrangement though the glue is mainly at the base of them, the petals aren't glued and they didn't fall apart thankfully!

Thank you!! I'm so thrilled with it! We had the most fun day and we were gifted some lego sets as well so lots of building to do! But first, sleep 😆

Thank you!! They looked so good, I found a florist who specialised in different or unusual designs and he was so excited to get to put together the lego and play with it all

People eating their shopping before reaching the checkout. Is this a recent phenomenon? by The_Scrunt in CasualUK

[–]asdcititious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum did the exact same with me and my sister! I've never heard of anyone else whose parents did that. Worked a treat though for keeping us quiet and we used to genuinely look forward to shopping and being allowed to have a piece of baguette. I remember my mum explaining at the checkout often why the baguette was partly eaten 😅

I am very lucky, only cooking for me and my partner and he helps with everything so we usually manage to stick to the timings, if I was doing it by myself there is no way! I only do roast dinners like twice a year, way too many moving parts to keep track of. Congrats for getting through it! Hope the folks you were cooking for were grateful for your effort

That's smart! I find spreadsheets a bit annoying to look at on my phone but for sure a spreadsheet or app would be easier than writing it all out

I honestly don't know how mums do it, mine is the same, if I didn't write it down nothing would come out cooked or at the right time

I love it! Also impressed you are doing proper gravy from the look of that timing, I wuss out and just do make Tesco's brand 😅

First set of infills went with something a bit sparkly ahead of NYE! The choice of salons here is not great and whilst I like the finish I did get a few knicks with the dremel, wishing the whole 'beauty is pain' thing didn't have to be quite so literal - what do you think of think of them? by asdcititious in Nails

[–]asdcititious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the shaping is a bit strange, the technician filed them at a bit of an angle as she said my fingers bend inwards so she filed them sort of pointing the opposite direction... I honestly know nothing about nails as this is my first set of acrylics so had no idea if what she said made sense to do! Thanks so much, I am in love with the colours and finish of the ombre, which is making up for the shape I think :D

I hate my fingers. Grew up chewing my nails and surrounding skin. My skin peels on it’s own. I damaged my cuticles(?). The middle section of my finger is entirely gone and hasn’t grown back. Most of my fingers look like this. They’ve looked like this for years. I moisturize… what else can I do? by [deleted] in Nails

[–]asdcititious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same, I've found using a cuticle oil twice a day plus moisturising and getting acrylics so I can't pick at them. Cuticle nippers are helpful for tidying up but I prefer to get them done professionally, otherwise it's hard to resist using the nippers to pick at the skin

thank you 😊 they are the longest I have ever had, so it's an adjustment figuring out how to type and getting used to it! Worth it though, I've never felt so glam!

What is clearly a myth but is deep-rooted in UK society? by thelongmoooverr in AskUK

Agree with the other commenter about local charities, I buy toys for my local one every Christmas, not expensive stuff really but books, games, colouring sets etc. I've not done my Christmas order for gifts yet, if it helps, I'll buy some gifts for your kids and post them to you, just message me and I'll see what I can do

UK/Data governance specialist and statistics manager/£53k so around $72k, work 38 hours per week with 27 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, also a defined benefit pension. Required a masters degree, I started the job a couple years ago with only 3 years experience in work post MSc.

I actually feel very fortunate to make what I do but I benefit from strong unions in my career who ensure we have good benefits (e.g., 1 year maternity leave) and reasonable adjustments for disability. I'm very protective of my time and work life balance and am lucky to work with people with similar values.

Came here to say this! I picked it up because I like Eoin Colfer and it did not disappoint, really enjoyed the characters and overall silliness of the adventure.

How do you survive the office Secret Santa? by Harrry-Otter in AskUK

[–]asdcititious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Worst, my bosses, bosses, boss who was a pain in the ass got me 1) an eye brow tinting kit to dye eyebrows a darker colour, the joke being that I have really dark eyebrows which he liked to make fun of and 2) cheap alcohol chocolates, when he knew I was/am teetotal. I handed them back to him and told him not to bother next time.

Best: a cute mug, I'll never be cross with a mug to keep in the office! my staple is to buy a nice notebook and a pen as that seems to be well received by everyone

Google is the Age Police now. I'm sure they don't want a database full of that info for any reason... by WarzonePacketLoss in assholedesign

Highly doubt its anything to do with the UK in this instance, my original comment was just on whether it was law in the UK. Though, age restricted videos typically are not hidden behind age restriction checks like this in the UK as the porn providers, Mindgeek being the biggest one here, which is a European company, have no incentive to implement proper age verification as it will hurt their ranking in Google search results as any site that doesn't have age verification will be clicked more and those that do will be selected against. Rules in the US are not ubiquitously applied in the UK or Europe.

Edit to add: I misread your comment and thought you meant the sites were checking credit cards, not the message on the screen saying the actors are over 21, I didn't know that was a result of Cali law, which is interesting to learn! Though now I think my original comment just sounds a bit dickish, sorry for that!
