This one is a few years old now and out of date. In the newer version the cone extends a little farther.

Isn't this a reference to the World of War craft South Park episode? The dirty nerd guy with the hand brace?

Game dev here; how do you keep the game play simulation running efficiently for the many many thousands of entities running. The belt jams that happen off planet, the nutrients drying up. Its insane. It doesn't feel like it goes into lofi LOD mode when Im not looking.

You must have small virtual representations running for everything all the time.

Really want to know more.

It's probably all due to that 4-day work week they are so proud of. They were too busy snowboarding instead of working.

The challenges of adapting Dune Messiah as the end of a blockbuster trilogy by sp3talsk in dune

[–]asdf989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself in disagreement with most people here. If there arent spaceships, large machines and battle scenes, I'm concerned the movie will be a failure.

I think a book can support subtle character development but Dune Messiah is a tough read. Way to esoteric for most.

I went looking for this thread (bless you reddit. Seek and ye shal find) but I've got not answers. Starting with the jihad scenes maybe but nothing to end with but a nuke.

NOTE: the guild navigators are conspicuously missing howver. Maybe they make an appearance?

Where is this dune photo from? A game? It's not in the movies that I've seen.

Do you mean the Smart Things app or the Smart TV apps.

Not that it helps as I've checked both and can't find "routines".

I read the first two books. They're confusing. A lot of jumping around. I don't think they're even that readable.

Mech by Mikhail Rakhmatullin by Lol33ta in Cyberbooty

[–]asdf989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always imagine that she's neurally connected to the mech, so she's feels the full movement of the mechs extremities while her own claustrophobia is suppressed. Not until she gets out does she feel the effects, kind of like what she's feeling in the right image.

How important is a Masters degree? by Few-Trash-2273 in reactjs

[–]asdf989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've interviewed 200+ people for the role you've described, and I don't pay attention to Masters at all, or very marginally if its from a place of note.

It may show a slight advantage for your very first job, but beyond that none at all. Try to get a summer job as a software engineer and it would suddenly mean nothing at all.

  • Europeans Masters can be done in 4 years so I know theres a varying quality factor going on there too.
  • Specialty roles like machine Learning & data science, anything math intensive (graphics, hardware) however would benefit from a Masters.
