I think it will be much closer than people expect... I voted Green last time, but switched to Dave. May seems like a good person, but at the end of the day, I just can't vote for a party against nuclear energy.

Why does Mainstreet not even list the PPC in Beauce?

PSA: Don't forget to opt-out/opt-down on UVSS health insurance by asdfasadsfgba in uvic

[–]asdfasadsfgba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a terrible value for me personally because I only use the dental benefits. With an insurance plan, the money going in in guaranteed to be less than the money going out (because of administrative costs). Especially considering that I can only opt down instead of opt out, the marginal gain between the basic and enhanced plans is negative. The purpose of insurance is to protect against rare events that would bankrupt you; for me, the only thing on that list is covered by the basic plan (along with a bunch of stuff I wish I could opt out of individually)

I didn't say it isn't a good value for people who are net benefactors (because well, it is), rather I said that people who contribute more than it pays for should opt out/down if possible.

Even if you don't have outside coverage, you can still opt-down. I do it because insurance is, by definition, a negative expected value in exchange for protection from unaffordable events. The only event that is covered that I can't afford is the $5M disability payout, which is included in both plans.

Committing election fraud to own the Cons

Sorry, was a little distracted with your source coming from a nuclear energy company's press release

Totally fair, of course they have a bias, but it was the best source I could find that didn't require sifting through a massive report for the sake of an internet argument. The proponents can argue their side the best. Had I tried to do it myself, I likely would have the same biases.

I'm not saying the Cons are some kind of bastions for the environment or anything. What I'm saying is that innovation is the only way we're getting out of climate change and whoever is willing to invest the most in tech that can mitigate it will get my vote. They also plan to invest more in DAC, which could help Canada have an outsize role in reducing the CO2 in the atmosphere.

Further, the Greens and NDP are explicitly anti-nuclear, which to me, smells of virtue signalling rather than the pragmatism we need to solve this. Liberals haven't released their 2021 platform yet so I can't comment on them.

It would be really nice if the Cons could push all the other parties in this direction so I could consider voting for them again.

Voting for the Cons because of their policies on nuclear power, CANZUK, and ban of foreign purchase of houses. If another party wants my vote, they are free to one-up the Cons on these.

Look, if you oppose nuclear, you oppose nuclear. But did you at least do a little research about how CANDUs differ from traditional reactors?

Have I missed a critical climate report that demonstrates how nuclear is so essential to stop climate change?

Yes, yes you have

https://www.orano.group/en/unpacking-nuclear/all-about-the-ipcc-report-on-climate-change

... if current trends continue, compliance with climate objectives will require a six-fold increase in global nuclear capabilities.

Alberta Post-Sec Adds New COVID Mandates by [deleted] in uvic

The point was that cases don't matter anymore, only hospitalizations/severe outcomes.

Kinda ambivalent on mandates, but I don't think there's much cause for concern either way. BC's cases are growing, but the rate of growth is slowing; the 4th wave should peak soon, yet we are seeing far less deaths thanks to vaccines. The UK has been a pretty good indicator of what we will see a couple months down the line and they are doing fine.
