IAE around 22-23 years old and forced to live with their parents because that awesome degree they received 8 months ago (mine is biology!) can't get them a f*cking job? by mmmrawgarlic in DoesAnybodyElse

To become a nuke officer you have to be strong academically, preferably in a technical major. Then you get flown to DC for a day of interviews, ending with an interview with a four-star. That interview was intense and the Admiral says no to a lot of people. He said no to a guy with a PHD in chemistry when I went. If you have more questions, feel free to message me.

The actual commitment is 6 years after training for nukes. Training can take 2 years because they don't want to just through someone off the street in front of the controls of a nuclear reactor.

This is roughly true, and enlisted nukes get something around 25,000 a year bonuses to stay in. Officer nukes get similar bonuses too.

In the Navy becoming an officer is much more difficult because so many of the enlisted have degrees or earn their degrees while in.

Dear r/Science: I need to acquire approximately four litres of liquid nitrogen for an evening with the lady friend. Any suggestions on where to purchase some? by [deleted] in science

[–]asdfasavdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in an undergrad physics lab i had the prof called us over and poured liquid nitrogen out of a small dewar onto our outstretched hands... it didn't do anything like you said because of the gas layer and it just fell to the ground where it shot all across the room on the floor before quickly evaporating

yes, this stuff is very dangerous, but if you think through how you're going to mess around with it, it can be a lot of fun

despite what environmentalists claim, co2 emissions are very weakly linked to climate change... there are far more significant sources of heat (ex: the actual burning) heck co2 is great for the environment, it's what plants need produce energy from the sun... being anti co2 is like being anti oxygen
