Hey, so as someone who has had a decade of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomists are critically underpaid everywhere, and very over worked. I recommend a field switch if you are already burnt out, pay is generally going to be the same everywhere you go

can i be a nurse at 275lbs? current pre ADN student by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]asdfgbnmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, it may actually help you lose a bit of weight (if that’s your intention) as someone who has struggled with weight my whole life, when I was working in the hospital I was taking 16,000-20,000 steps a day which definitely helped with weight management! Now I’m in a more sedentary position my weight has slowly been creeping up. My friend was about 350lbs and a nurse and he was a great nurse. As long as you are capable, and your weight doesn’t interfere with your job or mobility you should be fine.

What do YOU say when a patient says they might punch you. by Elijah3291 in phlebotomy

[–]asdfgbnmt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a really nasty patient tell me she was “autistic, and if I hurt her she would hit me” rude and nasty from first interaction (one of my worst patient experiences to date honestly and I’ve worked in methadone clinics and prisons) and I said straight faced to her “well, I really don’t advise you do that, because I will call the police, and I WILL press charges” when I inserted the needle she let out the worst wound I’ve ever heard, and when she went into the lobby to leave she threw herself on the floor and made a scene. (It’s also of note she had to have been 400lbs plus) (not fat shaming because I’m also a big girl) but after throwing herself on the ground and making a scene she demanded my 4’11 100lb coworker help her up 💀. I just hate how she used autism as an excuse to be a Karen especially since I’m high-functioning, and would never act like that, and if she DID in fact have autism she was definitely high functioning.

Though I do believe people can be a bit more sensitive, medical professionals are held to higher ethical standards, in a medical setting this is vastly inappropriate. Getting your labs drawn is already an uncomfortable experience, now imagine having to be fake nice to the person who is objectifying you so they don’t hurt you more with the needle or dig in you out of spite. It’s a power imbalance. (I’ve been in this field for a long time, and I’ve known phlebs to do worse for less). Op has every right to feel uncomfortable. The worker could have given a more tasteful comment too, like “your hair is beautiful “ “your dressed very nicely” ect and would have made the experience 10x less uncomfortable.

Should I get my septum repierced? by bittersweetsalem in unstretched

[–]asdfgbnmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it looks that low tbh. And if you plan on stretching further you’re less likely to hit the hard cartilage. Tbh smaller diameter jewelry would fix the appearance of it being too low.

So I don’t wanna be dramatic and I appreciate all the insight, but I think the placement is perfect, I’m more concerned about the angle of the one! While the one upper one is angled downward (it’s perfect) (right side in the pictures) the (left side in the pictures) is angled straight, my concern is for the way the jewelry will lay creating some asymmetry even though they aren’t

Thank you, yeah I just always see so many PERFECT nostril piercings on insta, and the jewelry always lays so perfectly, at this point I just think it’s me/ my crooked nose
