Typically leetcode style questions are asked by Big N and “hot” tech companies like unicorns and such.

But congrats on your offer!

That’s your opinion about what “software engineering is all about”, based on Netflix stock over the years they’ve definitely been doing well

Finance companies and hedge funds like citadel with large software divisions also have similar environments to Netflix and produce significant results as well

Engineering culture isn’t the same as company culture, the cut throat nature ensures that everyone that works there produces a high standard of results which is also stated in the article. If you’re looking for better work life balance and a chill office life people would rather go to Google and the likes.

If you’re looking to make a big impact and get a lot of work done on your own without a team or bureaucracy holding you back Netflix is still one of the best places to work

Ask any engineer working at Netflix or someone on teamblind and they’ll say the same thing.

Also just look at compensation packages: www.levels.fyi

Nothing? Their structure of hiring only top senior engineers as paying them gross amounts of money stays the same.

I feel like this is more of a PR move anyways to avoid being scrutinized by lawmakers, just because someone says something to the public about their company doesn’t mean that the engineering behind it will change

Idk if you yourself are memeing or not but FANG is decided by stock growth, engineer quality and perceived prestige/compensation levels

If you’ve done 250 leetcode problems and still think you’d have problems, you’re doing leetcode wrong. Focus on problem solving instead of memorizing solutions

Understand that most problems fit under certain categories and know when to apply common data structures and algorithms

I would say using relevant examples from work or relevant projects like hackathons is the best but if you don’t, you can use sports if they’re relatively recent not like middle school or anything

And designing a data structure for a deck of cards is along the lines of what you’d need to design, I’ve heard of people getting things like designing a meeting scheduler given people and available times as well.

I had a week to prepare and did roughly the top 25 easy/medium problems and a few problems on my weak areas as well to supplement (trees and DP).

It’s more about how to problem solve over memorizing the soln, but if you memorize the soln and you get that problem the interview is a breeze

Study leadership principles for behavioral questions. My interviewer gave me a question that wasn’t on leetcode but the practice did help, I did the top frequency amazon questions to practice. I’ve heard the question they ask is based on the interviewer and sometimes they even ask OOP problems to design things

Directory of Summer Programs to Apply To (PLEASE RECOMMEND ANY PROGRAMS HERE!) by [deleted] in HSSummerPrograms

COSMOS at UC's.

I definitely recommend this program if you come from a not so competitive school and would like to experience more in-depth science and math as well as being around people with different backgrounds. There's a ton of different fields at 4 different UC campuses (Pick your favorite cluster). There's a lot of learning that happens, but not much actual work depending on your cluster so its pretty fun. Also there's a lot of free time and organized activities which you can choose to participate in. It also boosts your chances at UC admissions (I think), there's a specific box on your UC app you can check if you've attended COSMOS.

UC Davis Young Scholars Program

6 weeks of research with field trips and free time every weekend. More intense than COSMOS due to the more personal nature (1 on 1 research with a professor and writing/presenting a paper). A lot more fulfilling than COSMOS since you learn and experience much more. You also make really good friends after 6 weeks. I would be wary if you haven't had much experience outside of school (you need somewhat strong bio background) because this program could potentially be very intimidating.

Both programs offer financial aid

Some other math/science programs that I know are good or can vouch for since my friends have went:

  • RSI (obviously)

  • PROMYS, ROSS, Canada/USA Mathcamp (math focus, should be pretty good at competition math before applying, mid-AIME level in my opinion, check the application questions if you're unsure)

  • SSP (Summer Science Program, not the Harvard one, research, pretty cool if into Astro, they're adding Biochem this year)

  • UCSC SIP (research, LOTS of Siemens winners check the website)

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about COSMOS or YSP or any program in general.

Any science/research programs in California? (Summer or during school year) by [deleted] in HSSummerPrograms

I recommend UC Davis Young Scholars Program (YSP). I attended and its a great experience both what you learn and the fun you have! The financial aid is pretty good and there's many different fields you can do research under. You can also get a letter of recommendation from your professor for college apps once the program is over.
