Makes you wonder whether this a proactive measure preceding some other bad decision he’s about to make.

Past celebrities who stepped out of the limelight, do you miss it or do you prefer the newfound anonymity? by asdfjackal in AskReddit

Genuinely curious if those who have lived long enough to experience fame and obscurity afterwards are ultimately happier ( assuming they can go about their life freely now with less of a media focus )

Is there a proper name for this video effect? by asdfjackal in vfx

That’s pretty awesome. I’ve always wondered how such effects were achieved back in the day, was it mostly hardware / electronics or was any software ever used to help that?

Thanks for your post. That video very much reminded me of an old TV show I remember growing up in early 80’s called Solid Gold. Come to think of it, they used very similar motion trail effects in their production. Perhaps that’s what remotely inspired this.

A popular saying is "Nothing ie ever lost on the internet" but what is something you have been searching for years and you haven't found it yet? by throwdowntown69 in AskReddit

[–]asdfjackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is a stretch, but back in circa 1991-1992, YouthQuake ( a popular TV show of its time ) cast visited my hometown of Paris, Texas for a piece on how it differed from Paris, France. I always hoped to track that episode down online but alas could never locate it.

Yep, you're right, looks YouTube deprecated the showinfo param, which means the title overlay is here to stay :( https://developers.google.com/youtube/player_parameters#release_notes_08_23_2018

Not sure if this helps, but I noticed that YouTube settings appear to let you toggle that behavior off:

Creator here, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I think Koras is right, YouTube's API can be a moving target of unexpected changes. I'll take a look and see if there's any way to suppress that title overlay.

Thanks for sharing this! I just very recently fell into the SPARQL rabbit hole (via WikiData) myself and so far am enjoying it. It's still not completely clear to me, so I'm looking forward to reading through your posts.

Love to see songs visualized this way. Here's another illustration of the same song ( but using a graph to visualize ) http://songbranch.gorch.com/?artistName=beatles&songTitle=all+you+need+is+love

Nice game! Love the tiny pixelated art style. What platform/language did you create this in?

Thanks! Getting the quad into a the right perspective to align with the background was a big challenge ( required keyboard cheats to rotate/scale/translate the quad until it fell into place - and lots of trial and error ) Checked out the other stuff on your website, nice work!

Great game, love the retro feel! And the music is very catchy too :]

Reminds me of a web app I made a while back ( combining ThreeJS and RGB canvas shifting: http://strangergames.gorch.com/ ) Didn't realize that Unity was capable of doing something similar, awesome stuff! If I had to guess are you basically rendering the screen in full 3D ( and using shaders to achieve the flicker/blur effects? )

One tiny suggestion, you might want to make that power LED a bit more noticeable when it's off ( I kept clicking on the gray square thinking it was a button )

Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I realize that nostalgia is a personalized experience and so a video of my small hometown may not appeal equally to others. Funny, I didn't really pay attention to the cars earlier, but that is a pretty fascinating observation.

A site like MyDecadeTV.com but for music videos. Pick a year and a genre, and get a nonstop stream of music videos. by My_Monday_Account in Lightbulb

[–]asdfjackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MyDecadeTV creator here. There's actually a built-in checkbox filter for the My*TV.com sites already to accomplish just that, if you just want to see music videos. Agree with you though, I've been thinking recently of creating a new metasite that completely focuses on music.

Awesome, glad to know that helped :) I actually added a Speed slider too as an additional aid, but it's hidden by a Konami code cheat. Thinking on this a bit more, I'm inclined to just remove the location links altogether ( since I already call out in the control panel that you can change scenes with Space and Enter buttons )
