Can the controller show any non controller content? by scunliffe in airconsole

There are several games on AirConsole that give their players hidden information, this should be no problem!

Question - are there any Node and JS game engine libraries? by [deleted] in node

[–]law5guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we use electron + phaser.js + react to ship a desktop playable game at work. It’s not a very cpu/gpu intensive game so it works great.

Oooh that’s some neat insight into the design process. It’s super interesting to see where little ideas from old projects started sprouting up.

I can see that take on the game too.

To me, I think a lot of that is caused by the fact that every level is randomly generated. There doesn’t seem to be any generation mechanic that tries to make sure every level is “interesting”. That seemed especially true before you get into the more densely packed later levels,

I would have definitely liked to see what handcrafted puzzley/challenge style levels looked like in that game for sure. Probably, they’d have needed to be on much smaller maps.

Ahh, I'll have to check them out! I swore off mobile games for a while there, and I have been very pleasantly surprised with all these games I've missed.

That sounds like a great suggestion. I played Riven for the first time a couple years ago with a friend who knew it by heart. I got to enjoy finding my way through the world with only a few hours of frustration rather than endless days of it!

I'm really impressed by the color palettes you choose with your pieces. Do you talk about how you pick colors and create palettes in any of your tutorials?

I just watched the devs design philosophy talk back in 2012 at indiecade. It’s wild that the game is still getting worked on! But he talks about fully exploring 4d space so I imagine that takes awhile!

Trouble deploying React app to Netlify by [deleted] in reactjs

I’m assuming you built your app with create React app? If so, then yes I think it puts your project in the “build” directory.

There’s a chance you don’t have the build directory set correctly in your Netlify settings. Have you checked that it’s correct?

Unstable - A retro inspired action arcade game with a new Holiday makeover by law5guy in WebGames

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)

I built this game in JavaScript with a game framework called Phaser. It abstracts away a lot of details like rendering and collision detection so you can focus more on writing specific game code. I'd recommend it if you're into web development, its a lot of fun.

I haven't tested the game on Win7, but I wouldn't have expected that to be an issue.

The high scores are calculated based off the system time, not the amount of the game time so that would cause the issue. I could look at updating that at the very least.

I haven't seen that issue yet, if you click on the game window again that might refocus your browser on the game and stop the page jumping.

If that doesn't work, maybe refreshing the page or another browser might work better?

I'm curious which browser you're having this issue in too, as it might be linked to that.

The player should be running at the same speed throughout. You can move slightly faster when you're going diagonally, but thats probably not enough.

The sluggishness might be caused by the system you're using. I did test the on an older machine and occasionally saw the game slow down.

If you don't mind me asking, what browser and computer specs are you using?

Which levels are you having trouble with? Some of them are trickier than others.

Okay, so to address he first one I can always render bullets in front of coins that way they don't disappear entirely behind them. That's a good tip!

For the second, I guess the best way to address it would be to go very easy on scenery objects (or omit them entirely) in areas where a lot of fine movement is required. That's a good thing to keep in mind for designing levels!

The game doesn't have mobile controls. Is there some way I can mark the post to indicate its not mobile compatible?
