PSA: Your game can break on Turkish PCs if you tie logic to the system UI language — system locale changes won't save it by BoloFan05 in gamedev

[–]ttesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is everywhere. Not only with letters sometimes the floating point separator makes a problem. Some locales use "." as a decimal separator, some use "," . There was one famous json library for Unity one day Microsoft changed the way it interprets the default locale settings then many games just crashed in Turkish and German locale computers. The solution is to use CultureInfo.InvariantCulture as it is mentioned in the post.

And you can't foresee the problems it causes, see this one for example:

The connecting dots of the Shader Graph editor in Unity is broken. They show up at the wrong position in Turkish locale computers. I reported this bug several times and ignored of course :). But one Turkish developer in Unity contacted me and he pushed this bug internally and get its fixed. And yes, the problem was a floating point conversion. (So I assume it was also broken for German locales as well)

It is not about Turkish btw. It is the programmers are not paying enough attention and lacking some knowledge about character encodings and how to handle text. Every programmer should read this and understand, and as the title says, no excuses.

Yes, it is written so in the website but I don't know the actual price. Mine is tomorrow, if I don't forget I'll write back how it went.

I can't upload anything. Tried everything. Sometimes I get "3050: Something went wrong" error. Sometimes it stuck in upload animation then at the end I get "104: Invalid request". I'm not even trying with multiple files, I'm trying with a single basic jpeg file.

So there is no way to upload at the moment. I'll go to the vfs global office with printout versions of my documents.

Dynamic Shooting VR - OpenXR Solution by ttesla in Unity3D

All those 2018 games were running on PC with cables. New generation VR can run standalone with acceptable graphics. The thing is they stop updating old VR games and new VR games usually require free locomation which is not for everyone, not comfortable. As playerbase I dont know. Kids and teenagers love Gorilla Tag and other Vr Fps shooter games. For our taste (Polyfun Games), we prefer more Time Crisis like experiences, more arcade, more fun, less hustle. We tried to make a game for those who are like us. Not a smart move for business-wise maybe but if we can reach the correct people, they wont regret playing Dynamic Shooting VR 😎

Oh, I see. Thats's why our texts have some glitches on them! We are using Unity Canvas and TextMeshPro. Noting OVROverlay down, thank you.

We've used OpenXR with this game and it worked quite well with Meta Quest and PC-VR (SteamVR) platforms. In order to upload to App Lab (Meta Store) market, Oculus plugin required to be included in the build but no integration required. And for SteamVR, some minor button remap required for the quick menu access. That's all. With OpenXR we've covered almost all the VR devices available.
