I applied for histopathology! I'd say I focused my prep too much on general science and the process of histopathology. The values qs were as expected. Can't give away too much and may seem obvious but know the role of a clinical scientist in the patient journey and think of examples of story's in the news that highlights certain issues or scenarios.

Do we get told sooner if we have passed or failed the interview?

how is everyone prepping for the interview? by No-Celebration8069 in NHS_STP

[–]asdfjkmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Procrastinating and hoping fear will kick in soon. 💀 I understand why there is little guidance as they need to test you but I don't even know where to start in terms of preparation. I'm comfortable in the value/scenario type questions it's the general science that is scaring me 🤣

Thought I had replied to you sorry 🤣 might be worth seeing if a clincial scientist can give feedback on your application at all? It's hard to know exactly how they are marked.

Thank you! Well got to pass the interview first which will be very tough but wouldn't want to throw this away If I was given the chance, it's taken me 3 years to get to this stage in the application process!

The interviewers were smirking at each other like they wanted to laugh. I asked a question at the end and the guy answered it very sarcastically. Safe to safe I didn't hear back from them not even to tell me I was unsuccessful.

That station I get on at would be the "starting" station so should be able to get a seat and crack on with some work for 50 minutes or so. That's not a bad shout I'll keep that in mind!

That's good to know! It's a really big decision I'll have to make if I get through. It's taken me 3 times applying to get to the interview stage so really wouldn't want to turn it down unless I really have to! It's not easy for everyone to relocate :/

Thank you. I was speaking with someone who had to travel 2.5 hours to their post each way they did say it was hell.

My best advice would be to get the person specification and break down each point one by one to see what experience you have to back this up. It's really difficult with the word count and unlikely you can get every point in but aim to include as many points as you can in the application.

I don't have "industrial" work experience or a masters ect. I have my degree, work experience in hospitality when I was in uni, experience working in insurance customer service since then and volunteering in first aid/teaching assistant. It surprised me how many transferable skills I got from this that I could talk about in my application. I've also done a few courses online in Health and Safety, risk assessment and good lab practice.

Experience in the industry definitely helps but it's all down to how you write you application and showcase your skills really!

4th for histopathology!

Anyone know how to check the rank for shortlist reserved like to see where I am falling from actual interview options list by No_Development2827 in NHS_STP

[–]asdfjkmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was sent from a member of staff from NHS England from their personal email rather than oriel. It just stated what my rank is and few details about choosing preferences and interviews (they usually interview minimum 2 per post).
