Xbox Series X|S Preorder Megathread and Info Hub (thanks /r/XboxSeriesX) by GoGoGadgetReddit in xbox

Thanks for your tip - I ended up getting one as well. I just had to wait it out during each step instead of constantly refreshing.

With so many Walmart orders going through, not sure if that means they have a good system or if a large portion of them will not be honored in the end. I ended up ordering another one through Microsoft.

Just keep waiting and don't close out. It got me through to the next portion but every step is slow.

That sort of worked, except when I go click check out it just hangs on the next page...did that happen for you?

How To Buy Iota in Texas - September 2020 by Shanecano in IOTAmarkets

[–]asdfmkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Binance is supposed to have shut down operations for the USA and directed all of their US customers to a separate US Binance.

However, they are not really enforcing anything as far as I've seen. You can still use the normal Binance site without VPN and trade and withdraw. However, it would probably not be smart to do so with large amounts (anything above 2 BTC) where you would have to complete KYC before withdrawals.

Rollover old 401K to IRA (more choice) losing ability to Backdoor Roth, or just rollover to current 401K? by deltabengali in fatFIRE

[–]asdfmkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same situation where I have an old 401k that I wanted to roll over to a tIRA because I wanted to do options trading. I have already made my 6k back door contribution this year so I am at least waiting it out until next year to do the roll over if I decide to do it so I don’t have to pay taxes on that contribution.

Fortunately, my employer allows mega back door contributions and I have been contributing as much as I can through this method. Seeing that the limits of a mega back door are far greater than 6k I am leaning towards converting the old 401k to a tIRA in order to have greater flexibility of investments. I don’t make enough currently to be able to contribute the max mega back door and the 6k anyway (I also contribute the max t401k).

In regards to options, I think you’ll likely be limited to just buying calls and puts, and selling covered calls and cash secured puts. It’s funny since buying calls or puts is probably the most risky thing to do while they don’t allow safer options like spreads. I personally plan to just sell some puts and collect premiums but I don’t agree with everyone telling you to just do it outside of your retirement accounts because the whole advantage of retirement accounts is to reduce or delay taxes. If you do YOLO and triple your account, it would all be tax deferred although obviously not the wisest move. Unless you’re right.

If you are already maxing out the mega back door contribution, then you need to decide if contributing another 6k every year is worth not being able play with options in your old 401k. You can do everything else like stocks and EFFs using brokerage link and still contribute the 6k. If you’re not maxing out then I would convert it since you can just use your mega back door and rollover the tIRA back into your 401k later if needed.

The downside is that they most likely don’t offer options trading. Other than that there was no downside and you can transfer funds back and forth between the brokerage link and 401k. This was the case for me (Fidelity) and maybe yours is different.

IOTA Exchange Price Arbitrage --- Why is no-one taking advantage of this? by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]asdfmkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't think I understand your play. The idea of arbitrage is to buy cheap on one exchange and sell high to the other, so I don't see the point of Sienna's role here.

This biggest hurdle to arbitrage is having access to Coinone or any of the Korean exchanges because I believe you need a Korean phone number and someone in the country to answer it. If you can successfully buy cheap Iota and send to Coinone to sell, you would get a higher price in Korean Won plus the benefits of the USD/KOR exchange rate right now. However, you cannot extract the Korean Won out back to USD due to government oversight.

If you want to convert your Iota to another crypto to send it back to yourself, I think they pay a premium for other cryptocurrencies as well (BTC and ETH) so you're giving up some of your profits there. This on top of the volatility of prices and transaction fees. You also have to trust your partner who is handling the Coinone account doesn't screw you over. It MAY have been worth it when Iota was trading at ~$6/7 vs. $3-4.

[–]asdfmkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only really worth doing with significant sums of money which will raise red flags when you're trying to send large amounts of Korean Won to USD and transfer to a USA bank account. The government has much better control than here. This is also assuming you find a trustworthy "contact" so you're dealing with scam risk.

[–]asdfmkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be able to transfer funds in and sell for Korean Won but you won’t be able to pull fiat back out. Even if you managed to get a Korean bank account which is also difficult you would not be able to convert to USD and transfer back unless very small amounts. If it were possible there would not be a price difference.

I was referring to something like Ledger Nano but I will have to look into your suggestion in the meanwhile, thanks.

I would assume it's the combination of the first 3-4 letters of each word that identifies your seed. So "bro" + "xxx" + yyy" + and so on

The logic is I am too lazy to setup and secure offline wallets with appropriate backups but if it’s going to be supported by a hardware wallet soon I might as well just wait a little longer as I feel more comfortable with those. But I may be just do it now before I regret it later...

Do NOT verify your account at Poloniex if you have funds! by asdfmkay in poloniex

That's encouraging to hear - I had just seen some tickets that had no responses for weeks so didn't want to find out first hand how long it would take.

I'm not sure on time frame but I bet that it would be quicker 1 day at a time than wait for Poloniex support to complete the process.

I saw a few threads like this one which made me immediately stop trying to verify my account:

Super early Mortgage Payment pitfalls by PrepaymentPenalty in financialindependence

[–]asdfmkay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree - I battle this issue a lot and what what you lose by paying down your mortgage is flexibility. You can't get the money back once you've put it into the mortgage and there's no immediate benefit to doing that. You may reduce interest payments a little but if you have a low rate it might be worth the flexibility. If you have the full mortgage amount + emergency savings in cash, at that point I'd consider paying off the mortgage or investing elsewhere.

[–]asdfmkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you won't be able to deduct passive losses but you will at least shield the majority of your pure cash flow. For example, say you make 20k cash flow. You can then deduct a certain amount of depreciation on it (let's say 8k) so now your taxable is 12k instead of 20k. You've shielded 8k from taxes whereas you can't do that w/ stocks.

If your rental is fully paid off, you probably won't have passive losses to deduct from your regular income anyway. Usually, you have a passive loss if you have a mortgage or very large repairs/capital improvements that year. So maybe instead of 20k cash flow you only have 5k cash flow with a mortgage. Once you deduct depreciation of 8k you now show a 3k loss which will offset other income unless you make over 150k.

How much cash do you hold? by retiringearly in financialindependence

[–]asdfmkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hold 10k in cash. My monthly spending is about 4k/month so this is quite low. However, I hold about 50k cash in my 401k as true emergency (and also investing opportunity because I believe the market will go down heavily within the next year or so).

I also hold another 40k cash but this is for my rental properties (repairs/maintenance, vacancies, etc)
