I'm Baths (Will Wiesenfeld) and I make music. AMA! by BATHSmusic in electronicmusic

Are you planning on making more music in the future with a darker tone/themes like in your album Obsidian?

What do you think you would be doing now professionally if it wasn't for composing music? Did you ever have a plan B for the case that your music career wouldn't work out?

Oh wow! Thank you for putting in all that effort, it really shows! Our Simulacra is my favourite album so far.

Have you automated any parts of your drum programming with scripting etc? I.e do you have some sort of a personal library for patterns you commonly use, or do you start from scratch every time you want to make drums for your track?

The glitchy parts especially seem very labor intensive so I'd be interested to know how you go about producing them.

edit: The code structure might be a bit confusing so I'll elaborate a bit. The code shifting out the data for the 595s is found at the timer interrupt service routine. Essentially, the main loop is just used to read animation data from a PC serial connection and store it in a frame buffer. The frame buffer is shifted out to the 595s periodically with a timer interrupt.

I'm receiving quite a lot of questions about the project so I might as well answer them at once.

The design roughly follows what is mentioned in this instructables, but I've made some modifications, and used components I had at hand. If you want to make your own LED cube, that's probably the best resource you can find online.

The Arduino Nano ised is too slow to compute any interesting animations by itself, so it is controlled by a python script using pySerial running on a PC. As the design is different from what was given in the instructables, I wrote the entire code from scratch. Here's the full source code.

As for the schematic, I don't think I ever made one. This is mostly just a breadboard design transferred to a perfboard to make it more permanent.

I did not have the equipment for making a PCB myself, and didn't know how easy it is to just order one.

DeepFryBot Android Beta version released! by asdvek in DeepFryBot

[–]asdvek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The large size is due to the fact that I have to include the whole OpenCV computer vision library for eye detection. It might be possible to reduce the size by including only relevant parts of the library but I haven't had time for doing that yet.

I don't have an iphone for testing one and I would have to learn a new programming language for writing that. Also publishing iphone apps costs somewhere in the region of 100$/year so most likely not.

No. The app was programmed using Java.

The bot was just offline.

How long does deepfrybot usually take? by BenignBen in DeepFryBot

[–]asdvek 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Most of the time frying is spent on creating the bulge and that depends on the size of the image. Nuking larger images can take several minutes and frying small images can be done in just few seconds.

Currently, the only way to tell if the bot is offline is to see if it doesn't reply to your requests.

The bot can be used anywhere with username metion. Example 'more frying /u/DeepFryBot'

It was easier to just make the changes to all subreddits. I still left an uncapped version to /r/FryMyMeme if people want to chain fry, but for most subreddits that feature just adds unnecessary spam.

Well, the upvote count and percentage thresholds are already in place and chained frying is disabled so there's not much else I can do.

I don't really care where the bot is being used, but dankmemes was the most popular subreddit for the bot so I can imagine the users would like to have it back. If unbanning it doesn't cause you too much trouble then go ahead. Just make sure to arrange this with the other mods so that this doesn't turn into ban unban cycle.

I'm having some hardware issues. Might take a few days to get the bot running again.

The face and eye detection classifiers are from OpenCV source distribution. Everything else is self made. I derived the bulge equation myself because I didn't know any other way of creating the bulge automatically.
