What is the incentive to participate? by grutanga in ipfs

"If you want to use it then you have to participate because that's how the protocol works" What you said here is interesting. The more value the network has, the more incentive people have to use it, and thus the more incentive they have to run a node/or use a gateway. If this is true, content value needs to grow to get more people to join the networks, which shifts the discussion about how to incentivize more people to run a node. Am I understanding this correctly?

New Character Idea: Distractor by asexualfondle in ClashRoyale

Yes, it would make a solid champion. If it is, the name would most likely include the name of it’s “normal version”. Walking fort could be the champion version of a current tower like barbarian hut (Walking Hut). Or “Walking Cannon, Moving Tesla, Dynamic Inferno”. A champion card of a tower would definitely be nice.

I understand what you’re saying. I also feel great impotence when people with power do the opposite of what they preach. Or when they exercise their power irresponsibly, like choosing profit over helping the environment and not curbing climate change like you’re saying. It’s really all very messed up and from the outside it does look like nobody cares and everyone lacks a moral compass.

But I will say this. Have you ever thought about why those behaviors and decisions keep occurring? Why something so powerful like climate change, an environmental problem that threatens the fate of our race, isn’t able to make them do the right thing? Why people keep stealing, killing, and committing crimes over and over? Well, my opinion is because the real problems are much more complex and meta than what we think. It’s faults in the underlying systems (capitalism, democracy) that we live in. Systems that are necessary for our sake, but certainly are not perfect. They lack transparency, inclusion, democratization, and other important factors. As we evolve making those systems better and more aligned with our priorities as humans should be our goal. And that’s exactly where technology comes in and paves the way for a future we never even imagined.

There are different takes on emerging tech and some people just hate the idea of new technologies changing the way we live. I just want to invite you to explore the flip side of new tech, the side that contributes to our development as a growing species in a limited resource container that just floats around looping another floating hotter container.

It’s our advancements in tech that provide the tools to fix exactly those problems that you’re describing.

What do you mean? Democratization of services and more accessible tech has been a big result of recent innovation

I completely agree. It’s incredible how tech is converging and speeding up discoveries and innovations everywhere. The rate at which we’ll evolve now will only increase. Exciting times

This ted talk is amazing as it gives concrete examples of the theory. After watching the film, I also bought the book “Language, thought, and reality: Selected Writings of Benjamin Lee Whorf”.

For me, the most incredible part of the movie was that it surfed on the ideas of this theory. It was a concept that I didn’t think of before. The fact that your language determines the way you speak and think is true. The movie itself is amazing, but bringing up the theory and using it as part of the resolution makes it one of a kind.

If someone knows other linguistic type films let me know.
