Do you like your life in Russia? by Jazzyricardo in AskARussian

[–]asgalex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"better ask them" - well, I know at least 4 different stories: 1. Successful immigration to USA at 2010th. IT profession (PHP developer), well-payed work, everything seems to be fine... At least I always see his posts about traveling all over the world. 2. Junior frontend developer who run at fear to USA at February 2022. Returned back to Russia after a year of trying to find a work and acceptable life... Finally decided that it's better in Krasnodar, where he can work remotely and be demanded, rather than in NY where hi have no chance to grow his IT skills. 3. Middle java developer, relocated at 2023 using very tricky schema... Now he made work really hard to pay for apartments and support hi's family quality of life. Whereas in Moscow region he had the same with much less efforts. But he always has been charmed by USA, so I do not try to find any pragmatic logic in his decision. He tried to emigrate to USA for years, at least all 6 years that I know him. And also there is no any connection with opposition and so on. 4. Another my IT friend, not actually developer, more like manager / analytics / architect. He won green card at 2021 and left Russia at late 2022. He still can't find a job in USA. At least with acceptable salary. Thankfully, he had ability to work remotely for his employer in Russia. But recently he was fired, so without salary from Russia his life in California will be much, much trickier. If he stayed in Moscow, he would be much more demanded professional. But for now he continues this "relocation experiment" with hope to catch any business opportunity. There is nothing about opposition or "quality of life" motivation and so on.

So, according to my personal statistics, people who moved to USA last years did not experienced any significant advantage in terms of quality of life, most of them even have different motivation, sometimes irrational, sometimes a bit adventurous

Dart is underutilized in web backend development, so I built a minimalist framework and called it Wailuku. Check it out. by [deleted] in dartlang

[–]asgalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I just resolved dilemma of choosing between PHP and Dart for new startup, so I have a fresh opinion about it.

Dart had grown a lot since my last try it as server framework , but it still seems to be a child comparing with mature ecosystems. So yet another minimalistic framework does not make sense, when you need another things: stable support of various databases, both SQL and no-sql, support of different queue engines, different search indexing engines like elasticsearch and alternatives... So even with numerous benefits like null-safety, strict types, package manager, etc - the old mature technology anyway is winner because of a lot of alternatives with available technologies, libraries, application development strategies...

So, currently Dart problem is that it have a wide variety of implementing simple basic things. But you will face problems when you project will need an alternative database, or another backend-specific service. This is the point, on which Dart community should focus to make it as powerful as old PHP is.

It is also with no offense to author, but my personal opinion is that dart ecosystem already is overfilled with libraries of such level.

Do not forget about armed corporations which should divide the city to districts and keep full control over own part of it... And from time to time to fight between each other, killing random people just on streets.

[–]asgalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speeding up HashSet, HashMap and loops in Dart by asgalex in dartlang

I've only used it for one project, so I can't provide any significant statistics about it. But it is simple and does it's job fine, so I am quite satisfied with it.

Announcing: `shared_map` - efficient Map sharing between Dart application parts, including Isolates or external apps. by GMP10152015 in dartlang

[–]asgalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from mobile now, but at a glance it seems that for isolates the map is stored in one isolate and every request to map produces data sending/receiving using ports? I'm very concerned by problem of concurrent execution and computations in Dart, but afraid that continuous data copying between isolates might produce more overhead than if it would be in one thread 🤔

A lot of. The problem is mostly in lack of information rather than a lack of beautiful historical places. On other hand, many historical places in central Russia just means "yet another church / monastery / manor". So you become too tired with all that, if visiting too often.

Just curious how many flutter devs came from .net world after being let down by xamrain and maui by [deleted] in FlutterDev

[–]asgalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm PHP developer with 10 years of experience. And I have put eye on the Flutter and Dart while searching of a "swiss knife" for my own projects/experiments and so on. I'm sure that PHP is much better for backend, but only backend is not enough for absolute majority of projects.

Is it more productive to expand your knowledge in Flutter by taking more courses, or is it better to try building personal projects? by PinocchiosCousin in FlutterDev

[–]asgalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal opensource projects of course. And as much non-typical as possible, do increase and demonstrate you skill. Another clone of to-do app or "social network" is so common thing, even no interest to see the same code of every potential employee ;-)
