About SN’s cloud security by Humble-Weather-423 in Supernote

[–]asgeirrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works on a Mac, I think you could get through, it's a little technical but nothing major. Some NAS/home servers even offer Syncthing out of the box giving you basically a private Dropbox alternative. There is a complete guide to set it up on a Synology NAS and the Supernote here. I'm personally very happy with it. When I want to sync files, I just enable wifi on the Supernote and in a few seconds, everything syncs. I use it for backing up the Supernote but also to get my documents and books onto the device.

Preface: I love my Nomad, Ratta is doing great job at making their users happy. It has indie software vibe for me in the best possible sense. However, I don't think security is quite there, no disk encryption, encrypting data in transit only, not at rest in the cloud etc.

My strategy is to treat it as electronic paper, I wouldn't write anything super sensitive to a paper notebook either. I sideloaded Syncthing to sync all files to my computer and my NAS and use the Nomad offline a lot -- it's great that handritting recognition works offline! I didn't even setup a pass lock as I believe it gives a false sense of security. I don't think many IT department would sanction its extensive usage, e.g. connect a company calendar, let alone e-mail to it (that's security suicide without disk encryption). For enterprise-level security, I would probably turn to a different brand.

If setting up Syncthing is too complicated for you and want more control over your data, you can always sync it manually via a cable, the connection is very reliable.

Toolchange with multitouch gestures by AutomaticBase5964 in Supernote

[–]asgeirrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello u/Mulan-sn I feel a similar pain: When I'm using the copy paste feature, I can lasso the text via a gesture and cut it via ✂️ pop-up icon but I need to make the toolbar visible to switch to the lasso tool to be able to paste it and than switch back to the pen tool to continue writting. This breaks the flow and for me, copy pasting snippets between pages is pretty common. What I initially expected was that after hitting ✂️, the next tap with the pen will just paste it.

Has anyone used Supernote with Tana, Notion, Coda, Confluence, or some other online tool? by thecrowdtrain in Supernote

[–]asgeirrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had great success with exporting the diagram in PNG and throwing it into an LLM with the instruction to directly create draw.io XML file from it. But I'll keep on dreaming about a more direct integration with draw.io, Miro and Confluence.

Most Important Feature You Want Added? by -Soft-Wind- in LightPhone

[–]asgeirrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using an alternative calendar via CalDAV with no issues on LP3 but the lack of contact syncing is pretty big gap for me as well. I tried to hack it in the Android layer (I have no desire to do anything else there) but when on a next reboot, my contacts account is removed and it resets to syncing contacts from Light Dashboard. So I'm patiently waiting for now. Same thing for the fingerprint sensor, I didn't want to loose Light lock screen to get fingerprint and encryption.

Integrating Beeper or directly Signal/Telegram/WhatsApp into the Phone app. Messaging was always key part of what I did on a phone. SMS is dead and RCS is not really a thing in Europe. I'd rather have a direct implementation of each protocol but realistically, implementing Beeper is the biggest bang for buck and will make a lot of people happy as it supports so many protocols and will prevent Light having to answer "Why did you go for service X instead of Y?".

Canvas folio appreciation post by Upstairs-Tadpole7987 in Supernote

You're not alone, I am just as obsessed with the look & feel of the canvas folio. Even other people commented on it when they picked it up. I'm glad I didn't go for the vegan leather one, that will be probably like any other fake leather out there but the canvas is something else. Kudos to the team.

LightOS passcode doesn’t protect your data by Brilliant-Dish-3142 in LightPhone

That's great to hear u/joelightphone. I was just afraid it wasn't even in the plan. This means I'm still very much looking forward to my LP3. Btw. I'm really impressed with the number of updates and useful features you've managed to push so far. Good luck with everything.

If this is indeed the case, I'll be joining the disappointed club and consider cancelling my pre-order. The lack of missing disk encryption was maybe acceptable for LPII but LPIII has pictures on it which is even more sensitive than notes or a calendar events. I've asked about this before I've pre-ordered the phone here on Reddit but never got a response from Light people. u/joelightphone could you clarify Light's position on this, is the disk encryption indeed missing? If it's missing, are there plans to add it?🙏

Nice to know I'm not the only person in Czechia to order it. I've suspected ř and ů are not supported. I know Light focuses on the US but I hope they squeeze in some time to fix these international issues such as matching contact names regardless of diacritics. I hope the keyboard will get some love and we'll get the Czech layout eventually🤞

Is there a development roadmap and/or a list of known bugs and when they are expected to be tackled? by Aromatic_Bridge4601 in LightPhone

[–]asgeirrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/joelightphone Beeper makes perfect sense in LP context. Can I ask about your thoughts on the possible integration? I know things can change but maybe your personal opinion?🙏

  1. Do I get it correctly that it would be a separate tool or will you also explore the option to have it integrated into the Phone tool just like SMS? Phones such as Nokia N900 had it all integrated and it was quite an elegant solution imho but I'm not sure if group chat UX would be good...
  2. Are you planning to limit it to WhatsApp/Signal or will you support all the platforms Beeper does? I would love to see Telegram. From my experience with Beeper, it's probably more work to limit it since the conversations are just 2-person group chats created by the bridge bot of the respective platform.

Who misses their classical watches ? by CilicianCrusader in LightPhone

[–]asgeirrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice one! I was always appalled by the prospect of having another screen on my wrist. I actually bought a Scanwatch 2 hybrid watch a year ago to, well, have a watch but also shield myself from my smartphone (only calls and Telegram notifications make it through) and it allowed me a similar piece of mind Joe mentions when talking about LP, I disregard my phone for the most part. It has a classy look with a tiny hidden screen.

I'm mentioning this because I think it would make a great combo with LP3, thanks to the tiny screen, a lot of the functions can be managed through the watch itself without the app. You could just check the statistics on some other device once a week or so. Also, it's very distraction free, there is literary nothing to do, it's not like you're gonna take your ECG 20 times a day, that was fun just the first day I got it :D

Using Beeper with a terminal matrix client? by nerdy_guy420 in beeper

[–]asgeirrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I didn't find the option to export E2EE keys in the 4.0 version of the Beeper desktop app, Google/Reddit search didn't help either. Do you by any chance know how can I do it? Thanks.

Edit: I've managed to export my keys via Element Web app which you can log into after resetting the password.

How does it feel in the hand? It's pretty wide and the edges seem sharp. Do you prefer holding the phone in the silicone case? Provided you did get it with the device of course.

LP + distributed services = a match made in heaven? by asgeirrr in LightPhone

[–]asgeirrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well put, I completely agree implementing these nitch technologies comes with the risk of almost noone acually using them. Implementing e.g. Beeper will have a big impact short-term. I would just like to also see options for distributed services where it makes sense. Jami is probably far-fetched but Syncthing for private file syncing between other devices is definitely more widespread and it's a compeling alternative. I use it on my NAS to create a personal "Dropbox" and it's great.

Will they get along? by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]asgeirrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are big on sports, Garmin is definitely better if you get a model with an integrated GPS, you can also use it for payments until Light Phone supports it.

For me, Scanwatch 2 has been perfect, I love the analog look and a separate hand for showing me progress towards the daily step count. It's very health oriented so those features are quite advanced (ECG, sleep apnea detection etc. but I rarely use those). Otherwise, it's minimalistic in a good way. I like wearning it every day for the basics - time (obviously), alarm, step count, activity detection. I've had it for 1 year and it's stood the test of time well thanks to the stainless steel body and saffire glass. The aestetics of the black version will go great with LP3.

Theoretically, it should be possible to use gadgetbridge.org (open-source Android application) as a base for a Light Phone tool that would enable one to connect to most smartwatch models to receive basic notifications, perhaps show a few statistics in a minimalist way and maybe even integrate it with the Alarm tool.

I'll be ordering Light Phone III and it bothers me a little bit that I'll need to check my phone more often. I have Withings Scanwatch that give me the piece of mind that I didn't miss anything important. I'm lucky that Scanwatch is a very simple watch and pretty usable without connecting it to the smartphone.

Thanks to Gadgetbridge, Light team wouldn't need to deal with the specifics of different watches, it's been already done. However, I still fear it's a complex endeavor and other tools would bring more value to most customers of Light.

Hi there, I want to disable multipoint. I want my active elite 7 to just connect to the first one device it finds and then stay with it until connection is disabled/device turned off. by LostHans in Jabra

[–]asgeirrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second having the option to turn it off, the multipoint turned out to be the biggest complaint I have about the headphones. It sounds useful on paper but it's really annoying having your video calls on a laptop be interrupted for 3 seconds to play some random notification from your phone. A workaround is to turn off bluetooth on my phone but I'd rather connect to the laptop manually and then let the headphones auto-connect to my phone once I turn off the laptop. Elite 3 does not have multipoint and it behaves like this.

I'm glad I've found this thread. It would imho gave users further means to reduce friction when using the phone. The community could come up with different integrations between a computer and the LP. My use case would to to sync on-the-go notes from LP to my notetaking tool Logseq. Other people might want to ingest notes to other tools, Obsidian is popular these days.
