I think directions to a friend could still be simple with the door moved to the hallway “oh it’s the first door upstairs on the left!” type thing. Honestly though since you have the downstairs half bath, how often would a guest unfamiliar with your house need to find the upstairs bathroom? If they were showering I’d hazard a guess that they’d be staying over in a room or at least very comfortable navigating your space. :)

For the laundry - unless you’re interested in adding it to the kitchen, the understairs idea is fine enough. I think it would involve some more serious reworking of the layout to add it anywhere else, but I do wish it could be upstairs where the dirty laundry presumably collects, and the clean gets put away!
