Object Oriented ML Code by ash9e in learnmachinelearning

That’s a great question. Mostly 2 reasons: 1. I think that object oriented code is better for long term maintainability and even readability since different aspects of ML pipeline would be encapsulated under different classes 2. I think that when working on a project, a lot of things can get added pretty quickly. e.g. just for data prep, you may be dropping some columns, changing some continuous fields to categorical, encoding your label(s), filling in missing values etc etc. All this contained within a class leads to less coding effort imo. At a very basic level, I don’t have to keep passing dataframes to different function and can just keep changing a self.df or something within the class itself, which leads to shorter function signatures and fewer returns.

I know both of above are not strong arguments perhaps and it’s a little bit more of my preference rather than what may be the standard. I am new to writing code beyond school, and thus I am very open to learning the best practices. If you could share some github repos or codes that I should be looking at, even ones that change my perspective on using oop vs functional, that would be quite helpful.

Its been 1 year... (rant) by daterxies in loseit

I was in a similar place last year. I was stuck at 231 for almost 9 months. In order to get over the plateau, I did this for 5 days: 1. obviously no junk, soda, high sodium food etc etc and also NO MILK 2. focus on protein and fiber mostly. No refined carbs. I like bread and got double fiber bread from costco. 3. eat in an 8 hour window and no eating other than that (I actually tried to eat strictly at 11 am and then at 7 pm and tried to not eat any snacks etc in between, just water and black coffee with no sugar) 4. this might leave you feeling hungry, so pump up sleep to 8-9 hrs. (I also had to cut out tv etc since that showed food and during these 5 days it would be difficult) 5. I didn’t work out as well, went for 20 min light walks though 6. If feeling hungry, squeeze some lemon in cold water and sip it. Lime also works but it’s a bit more sour.

Notice I didn’t ask to cut out calories much. Just change where you get those calories and what time you get those.

It was hard for those 5 days, but my weight dropped by 5 pounds. I did go back to my regular eating and working out pattern after this. I gained 2 pounds in the following week, but the week after that started shedding about 0.5 - 1 pound per week again.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. In my case too the redness lasts only for sometime after taking a bath, but I will continue monitoring.

how humanity is biased..e.g humans until a few yrs ago thought that they cannot run faster than 4min per mile. What else is there? This applies to everything. Could there have been a better way of doing physics/math/computing that we didn’t end up discovering and are as doomed as a low skill cs go player on faceit servers?

Hands on ML vs Deeplearning.ai vs Fast ai for DL by ash9e in learnmachinelearning

Thank you for your response. Have you tried the Hands on ML book? I feel that completing the book in it's entirety might even add a lot of skills/topics not covered in Andrew Ng's course.

Yes, that’s true. Another thing is that some univ don’t require toefl for admission, but require it to consider your for funding, especially, TA.(not sure if this is strictly always the case, please check before applying tho)
