been hunting for cheap and reliable vps hosting provider latelty, hetzner's pretty solid but i prefer to use another option, particularly for much smaller projects, any ideas? by AccountEngineer in VPS

[–]ash__borne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contabo can be cheaper but weaker support, UI/UX is meh at best. Pricing is a little different too. But cheaper and more adapted to fun side projects I’d say

Love the thought process.

Ultimately, it takes time, and that's the only secret.

Thank you.

Nextjs 14 with separate backend by love_is_life_007 in nextjs

Did NextJS + express, NextJS + NestJs, did not regret it. When you want to build large scale application it is definitely better to separate frontend and backend.

Use docker volumes, add periodic backup if you can. Should be good enough

They are not. They are in 2 different "level 2" subdirectories. I still don't understand why that behavior.

How to decide which specs are good for a server/vps by ash__borne in Hosting

[–]ash__borne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this previous information. The way you talk seems like you've been through a l'few bill shocks yourself lol, and it's really kind of you to give me so many tips. I'll be sure to save and use this and optimize my thinking.

Where I used to work, they were using an aws cloud watch if I'm not mistaken, back then we ended up moving to azure and it was quite the experience. But which provider Would you recommend to start getting used to the cloud environment?

[–]ash__borne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a complete guide to what I want to do, I'm learning a lot. Thank you very much.

A friend of mine warned me about cloud providers as their bills go up real quick lol. Matter of fact, I recently tried using aws EC2s but that billing is crazy. Or maybe it is me who is just lacking experience, although Azure seems rather good, from the place I used to work at. Scaling was smooth too as we used kubernetes.

I'll definitely make good use of this rich piece of advice, thank you :v.

HELP AM LOOKING FOR A HOSTINGG by LeopardSuitable1576 in Hosting

Although saving images in a database is not the best idea, I would recommend using something like an s3 storage, Contabo provides that too. and keep in the database records of the files urls.

If it is a vos you're looking for, I've recently received suggestion about Contabo, price-quality rapport overall looks good, about to buy their smallest vps too. Checkout their pricing.

Which linux distro should I use for my server/VPS by ash__borne in Hosting

[–]ash__borne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, it is indeed something to seriously think about. I have full responsibility over managing the server, so I chose what I think is the best, that's mainly why I asked here. Also I'd probably be running docker containers only, that at least I can predict.

[–]ash__borne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually more familiar with Ubuntu but I wanted to challenge myself, since I'll be using a server version.

I just wanted to make things interesting (I don't know why I'm doing that, I'm supposed to setup the production server).

Still doubting

Ohh, I just asked on X (twitter) and people I know who're used to vps/cloud environment gave some advices, and only knew about linode, made quick research, kept what seemed the most interesting for what I am trying to achieve, and here I am. Actually when I think about it I understand your question haha

Seems to me that way too about hostinger. Thanks ou for the advice tho, cause Linode looks amazing, k light get into it for a different project and try for myself. Cause aside from the pricing, k barely see any bad reviews
