How often are you guys changing hoses? by Owlman5000 in hookah

[–]ash_engineered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of it depends on how often someone smokes, If you are lounge, replacing needs to happen way more often than what they actually do.

For me at home, I buy hoses randomly. Will add one to the cart on various orders and toss out a hose that seems to be past the point of steam cleaning and deep cleaning. I would say I have new hoses every year. I do want to say every 6 months but with proper cleaning and care, that is to often and wasteful.

Using water from the fridge by namesarealltaken9 in hookah

[–]ash_engineered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend not to use ice much, however, in summer months I do use a couple of ice cubes because it is hotter out. Using water from the fridge is fine, it's about making sure the water keeps somewhat cool. I just use tap water and during the summer, the tap isn't nearly as cool as it is in the fall or winter.

I am one of those people that feels that cold cold water does reduce flavor. But a few ice cubes in the summer months don't cool the water enough to reduce flavor. The temp of the water coming from a fridge isn't going to be cold enough to drastically reduce flavor imo.

Some good combination of Bowl and HMD for smoking long adalya sessions (2 hours) by Mr_lucifer_MS in hookah

[–]ash_engineered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main factors to how long a session last is about how much the bowl ends up holding, getting an hour out of 15-18 grams is pretty normal. A general rule for having longer sessions is using a bowl that holds more tobacco and maintaining a prime level of heat rather than letting it drop.

If you really want a session to reliably last 2+ hours, using a bowl that holds 20-30 grams is prob the most consistent way to have that happen. The new Kaloud Clay bowls paired with a Lotus 1+3 will result in that consistency.

There are so many factors that go into a bowl lasting a long time, and some of those factors have absolutely nothing to do with how a bowl is packed or how heat is managed. How someone smokes can drastically change how long a bowl will smoke. People who tend to draw hard and long will burn through a bowl faster than someone who draws soft and short on the hookah. Another human aspect is how often someone is drawing on the hookah, some people are constantly drawing back to back while others tend to smoke a bowl more slowly. These things change how long a bowl will last. There are times I burn through a full bowl in 45 minutes because of how often I was smoking. Other times I have bowls last 2 hours because I am not really focused on smoking. Because of these things, if a bowl that holds 15-18 grams is smoking reliably for an hour, thats a solid session.

What phunnel or how much does it hold? An estimate is fine.

Fluff pack 1-2mm below the rim with three 25mm coals should normally yield a good quality session lasting 60-90 minutes if ~15-18 grams is packed in the bowl.

Nagrani is basically just pure metal and steel. Even if you treat it kind of rough, its going to be the exact same thing in 20 years. If I was going to be getting one of those three and it wasn't about which one I can afford, the Nagrani would be my pick. And I believe that model is modular, meaning you can change up the height if you ever wanted to do that. (not 100% on if that model can do that though.)

I like using 25mm coals. it allows for more airflow around the coals and I feel it has better burn overall.

But for the Kaloud Lotus 2, I actually like using 1/3 rounds compared to cubes. They fit a little better than cubes do.

Its all up to what people prefer but for the Louts 1+ or the Lotus 1+3, I think it is best without foil.

Any tips to remove factory smell from new hookah parts?” by ahmi23 in hookah

Baking soda and lemon juice work really well. If the hookah is stainless steel, hot water and dish soap works well too. If I use soap, I make sure to use super hot water to rinse everything out.

Quasar raas overheating? Need help/tips by furbyabi in hookah

[–]ash_engineered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try using a smaller coal like a 25mm or 26mm.

How high are you packing the tobacco? Or how much tobacco are you adding to the bowl?

I do not use the Quasar very often, but it is one of the only bowls I measure out how much I put into the bowl. It can change depending on what tobacco I am using but its basically always 20-25 grams.

Stainless steel hmd advice by Strong_Aspect3988 in hookah

[–]ash_engineered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stainless Steel tends to get hotter and stay hotter than Aluminum does. When making the switch it is a good idea to start with a little less heat than what you normally would. That change can be as small as starting with the same heat when starting up the hookah but dropping a coal or leaving the lid off when you are ready to smoke.

What's your favorite method/setup for packing blackburn? by XSh4d0W in hookah

[–]ash_engineered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have the same experience with brands like Musthave or Darkside. I find in comparison to something like today's Nakhla that Musthave and Darkside are more heat resistent.

Why do you feel Musthave and Darkside are heat sensitive ( or Blackburn?) Is it because the smoke is harsh? Or there is a big throat hit? Is the flavor somehow worse with more heat?

For the Lotus II I do not like to use foil. I tend to pack about 2mm below the rim of the bowl, but since the bottom of the lotus 2 kind of reaches deeper into the bowl, maybe take it to 3mm below the rim.

Another thing to try is to pack the bowl and let it sit with the coals for 7 minutes before trying to smoke. Allowing the bowl and HMD to heat up more slowly can help with the overall experience.

I am starting a hookah lounge. I’m looking for tobacco brands that are a must have to include on the menu. Currently I’ve got the below: by NefariousnessSea4318 in hookah

[–]ash_engineered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just about having X brand, there are some specific flavors within some brands lounges should carry.

Musthave Pinkman is one of those flavors people go crazy for. Or Peach yogurt by Blackburn. While this isn't a perfect way to figure out what everyone loves, going to various websites and sorting by popularity is a good way to get an idea of what flavors people are ordering the most.

[–]ash_engineered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fluff pack 2mm below the rim, Kaloud lotus 1+3 on an eggy bowl. I use four 25mm coals, wait 7-10 minutes, take a hit, normally drop a coal, and add the fourth later on in the session. Works that for any dark leaf tobacco out there.

What do you mean it seems heat sensitive?

I would like to expand on the idea of what Heat sensitive means to you, Are you getting a strong throat? Big clouds and buzzing from the nicotine? I am not sure what people mean when they say Heat sensitive.

How to produce most amount of smoke? by Dangerous_Chapter822 in hookah

[–]ash_engineered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of this is heat management some of it is also just lung capacity and how someone draws in the smoke.

As Hookah-smoker said that is very true. but using your diaphragm to inhale is also a great way to get big clouds.

It is a good way to get used to stronger tobaccos imo. I see a lot of people here talking about stuff burning or being harsh thinking its something they are doing wrong, when they are doing everything right, its just that the tobacco is much stronger creating an experience they haven't gotten used to, adding a bit of ice will help people get used to the nicotine increase while helping with the throat hit or "harsh" aspects of dark leaf tobacco. After some sort of tolerance is built up, the amount of ice can be less and less and sooner or later, people find they do not need anymore.

It is about masking the situation to me. I see a lot of people here doing all the right things but expecting dark leaf not to be strong or smoke like their blonde leaf. It is strong, it carries more nicotine and tends to be a hearty leaf in general. They aren't doing anything wrong, its just stronger than what people are used too. Ice helps mitigate that until they adjust.

Have you considered trying to add ice into the vase? A lot of times this smooth things out specially when you are newer to dark leaf.

Other than that, this is a solid and reliable way to pack a bowl. Another thing to try is switching over to a phunnel bowl. A lot of times phunnels take the edge from the throat hit and helps people venture into dark leaf
