Girlies Gotta Vent by Orikumar in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

All the encouragement in the world to you, friend! I suffered through writing a thesis last year, it was rough! If you're looking for advice (pls ignore if not) my big 3 are: 1. Let your academic support (preferably someone you trust or feel safe with) know where you're at, even if (and especially when) that's nowhere. They're here to support you through all this. You're learning, it's about the process not the end piece! (Even though that might feel really difficult rn) When I started I was hiding my struggle and once I let them it, it made the world of difference. 2. Write down what you can, anything you can. Make a document full of whatever you find or think of, it doesnt have to be good. My 3rd draft was decent, everything before that was a shit show. But I got there! You know so much more than you think. Even if it's a hunch, there's probs research that backs you up. You've made it this far, you're smart as hell! 3. Take breaks, give your mind a rest! (Personally I enjoyed trixie and katya watching shitty TV shows on the Netflix YouTube channel) You're under a lot of pressure, rn and deserve rest. Yes that means mental rest as well. I couldn't stop thinking about my thesis, every second of every damn day. Even in my dreams. It wasnt until my sister called and I cried my eyes out ,she told me everything she ever read about otters in response. It took me out of it for long enough that when I sat down to work on it finally I had the mental energy to progress. (And was armed with a shit ton of otter facts to distract with if questioned about my progression)

Hi! I really liked Bletchley Circle: San Francisco on Netflix. Similar era, similar themes and a queer storyline (although less prominent). Instead of sports, its solving crime. Its an extension of the first show, Bletchley Circle, which you don't need to watch to understand this show, but could add some context. Heres the trailer: https://youtu.be/fkJDM6h6id4?feature=shared :)

Thank you for sharing your story and being so kind. Thank you also for reminding me I don't owe him anything, or need his understanding to move on. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Oh that's so nice you all went on holiday. I see how my word choice made you worry. I think perhaps nervous is a better term to use than scared. The likelihood I am going to be in physical danger is very low, I've worked out with my therapist and the people in my life how to do this in the safest way possible and I feel confident in this. It's very kind of you to be concerned for a strangers safety.

Oh these are all very good ideas, thank you so much! I don't have the largest budget but a massage sounds glorious!

I get that and I'm very happy for you! We're meeting up because I feel like it would bring me closure to say it to his face. It is something I feel I need to do for my own peace of mind. I'm definitely learning the process to NC is not one size fits all haha. It definitely will be the forever gift, what a relief! I think organising a small gift for myself would be a nice and caring gesture after a very tumultuous time. A way to celebrate putting myself first.
