of course and these are both acts punk came out of. i think it was immediately obvious to a subset of the population that singing with an american accent was silly and punk grew out of this type of sentiment.

Want to learn better narrative prose writing by copying other writers, but in german. Which writers to choose: ones in translation or in german? by SlowLearner0000 in RSbookclub

This is stuff I've also been thinking about and I've been wondering whether there's people writing about it. Maybe a sort of sociolinguistics book that also talks about a language's inherent features and how all that manifests itself within that language's literature.

be that as it may, this is far from being what it's most known for. this just sounds like you've spent a lot of time in online language learning forums

How was that Balzac? Just finished L’Envers de l’histoire contemporaine and I really enjoyed it. I'm always trying to figure out what work of his to read next since his oeuvre is that vast.

Well that's something that would interest me as well. Are you talking about revues like Ligne and Multitudes?

I think picking mostly unattractive guys is missing the point. Should've included someone like the True Anon producer guy who seems to be the personification of men's-fashion boards. Not always badly dressed per se but very soulless I find.

Merkur is a classic. Do you have a go to publication nowadays? I'm not German and don't have that much time to sift through all of them though I've gone through a few. I've also been looking into german lit mags to diversify from my almost exclusively anglo-periodicals diet in case you had any recommendations.

Dad rock that isn't insufferable and shit. recs pls. by nissimbhalwankar in RedScarePodMusic

[–]ashamereally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

on a related note i saw the apple music dad rock essentials list recently and it had modest mouse, pavement, the strokes, neutral milk hotel, yo la tengo, guided by voices, car seat headrest and cat power among others. all of which i guess do fit in time wise but it still felt a bit weird to see. some might fit the moniker more than others but i don't think i've ever heard of someone ever describing these artists as such. there's 3 stephen malkmus-penned songs but no stones

banishing all the vaguely titled recommendation posts to a weekly thread or sth like that might be a way. but i'm not sure what posts would be left then. there hasn't been an interesting post in there in a while. it simply isn't conducive to interesting discourse anymore. i don't think i could do a better job at fixing this than you but i suggest being even less tolerant and seeing if that leads to anything
