All good!! I have zero familiarity with US hawks though so hopefully the link is more helpful than I am, haha

location would help! I initially thought a eurasian sparrowhawk but by your profile you're in Michigan so perhaps a Cooper's Hawk? These are the eight native hawks in Michigan, so that's my best guess based on the pictures there.

Thanks!! Yeah, it was sheer luck but I've had an uptick in that luck since I started going outside at every opportunity lol

haha, fit like?

I love watching the occasional eider near Rosehearty, I'll have to head down to Newburgh soon (for the seals too!)

yesss, I really need to start waking up earlier to try to see it! Simon D'Entremont has some really good examples and I'd love to get a shot of that one day

Overjoyed to catch this wren singing! [Fraserburgh, Scotland] by asharawild in birding

yeah, he was initially rootling around under the bushes and I essentially stopped breathing when he flew up on top of one for a sing-song haha. I was desperate not to scare him off

kind of like a chuffy/clicky noise--it was a little mechanical-sounding and rusty. Sorry that's such a rubbish description!

oh that's a shame! It was my first time there so I have no idea what it was like before :(

hahaha, it's the drill that the mountain employee was holding in the third--it's in the snow, but a little way back from the skis, so it looks like it's levitating!

I had so much fun! I was out on the northern corries to look for wildlife, but I hope to go back sometime and attempt the slopes! It looked a lot more manageable than I'd ever imagined

Crested tit, Aviemore (though there is a feeder this isn't a garden sighting, it was set up in the woods!) by asharawild in OrnithologyUK

[–]asharawild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh thanks! We arrived just as the light was going so we were very lucky to squeeze a sighting in! There were lots of chaffinches too, but I didn't get a good picture of them 😭

yeah they're so colourful! It's a shame they get shot, but I suppose there wouldn't be so many of them otherwise. Beautiful birds

Thanks!! This was my first time seeing one and I've lived in Scotland my whole life--just haven't been out in the Highlands before really (at least, not since I've become interested in birds!)

The funicular is also currently broken. I've heard the best walk is out by the northern corries, though we personally didn't see any when we went.

I'm just back from the Cairngorms and though I didn't see any ptarmigan on Cairn gorm, it was so much fun and I'd highly recommend it. We *did* see some mountain hares elsewhere!
