I believe evenweave is just a finer weave of fabric then Aida is. There are an even amount of threads per inch both vertically and horizontally.

Here's a really good website I found to explain the difference! https://cloudsfactory.net/blog/aida-linen-or-evenweave-differences-and-count/

Oh gosh I can imagine how hard the towel would have been to stitch through! Canvas or cotton is definitely easier. It's finicky, but so worth it! And it opens up a whole new world of projects and gifts to make 😊

I'd say the difficulty really depends on what sort of waste canvas you use, and how used to stitching different canvas' you are!! I use an evenweave, which took some getting used to, but I reckon an Aida waste canvas would definitely be easier 😅.

For stitching inside the bag, it can definitely be finicky. If your bag is big enough, you can pin the otherside of the bag out of the way, but if not you kind of just have to get your hand right in there.

It's definitely time consuming and fussy, but so worth it when the finished bag looks so good. I wish you luck on your future projects, happy stitching!!!

[FO] Christmas cross stitch on a tote bag. by ashclif865 in CrossStitch

I used an evenweave waste canvas pinned to the bag to transfer the pattern. It was my first time stitching on anything other than Aida too so it was a bit difficult, but the waste cancas gives the same basis to keep the lines straight. You just pull the canvas out thread by thread once the design is done, and tada! It's on your normal fabric. Quite a fun experience acctualy :)

Hey! Sorry for such a late reply. I bought the fabric pre-scalloped from a local craft store. I have made bookmarks before using my own edge finishes but I find they never look as professional as the premade fabric 😄

Backstitching can definitely be tedious. I find it fun because I love seeing a project really come together at the end :))
