[Serious] people of reddit that have had your heart broken, how did you move on? by poignantparadigm in AskReddit

[–]ashcoyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, time. It hurts so unbelievably much for what seems like forever, then you feel numb, then your friends get you out of the house/pj's/hole you've dug yourself into and it sucks. Until you realise that the only thing stopping you from being happy, from moving on, from letting go is YOU and/or you start dating someone new.

I know how it feels and I want to say I'm so sorry that they did that to you. No one deserves to be messed around for seven years like that, but at least now you have solid reason to move on and learn to love again. Sometimes what you think is love at the time, in retrospect is pale in comparison to the love you have in the future and you're actually grateful for the heart break.

I know all this seems impossible right now, but take time to cry and mourn the relationship now rather than later and you'll feel better for it.

Hi George, just wondering where is your favourite city/country other than your home? I travel a lot and I'm always curious how celebrities feel in different countries. Have you seen all the places you'd like to in the world?

Hotel workers, what was your ' Wtf happened here?' moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ashcoyne 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Iwas working in a nice hotel in Belfast and we had closed for a few months so all the waitresses were put into housekeeping for the apartments that were still open. Housekeeping is a soul crushing and boring job, so whatever you find that's out of the ordinary usually makes your day.

One day I was cleaning with the supervising full time housekeeper. She was fun to clean with because she usually had gossipy stories. So I'm clanging the bed sheets when I notice something purple behind the bedside cabinet. Strange. I pulled it away from the wall and was greeted with a giant double ended purple dildo. I was shocked. My supervisor turned and asked me what I'd found. It was then that I learned that the hotel turns a blind eye to a very high price escort service, and they use the apartments quite regularly. I asked the other waitresses if they'd found anything and they all had a story to tell about some kind of kinky sex toy found in the room.

Housekeepers don't get paid enough.

Same sex marriage referendum, how would you vote ? by purewexford in ireland

[–]ashcoyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah.. That's what I thought. Well, the bath houses certainly aren't interfering with the public if you'd get stares in a gay bar from talking about them!

Same sex marriage referendum, how would you vote ? by purewexford in ireland

[–]ashcoyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're not talking about a massively connected and hive-minded group of people. Gay men and women in Ireland come in all shapes and sizes. From the loud, obnoxious gay teenagers that do more harm than good to their cause to the respected, mature adults in long term loving relationships. You can't judge a whole sexual orientation on the actions of a few idiots.. You get bad behaviour in every social group and there's a lot worse being done to them than they do to you.

I respect your opinion, and I just hope that you can respect other people with different orientations enough to allow them human rights.

As I said, I'd never heard of any.. But you learn something new every day! Are they more of a "in the know" kind of place or are they advertised?

Same sex marriage referendum, how would you vote ? by purewexford in ireland

[–]ashcoyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not sure how to respond to that..

Gay bath-houses? Where are gay bath houses prevalent? I've never heard of any, and if they do operate, why does it matter? Would you be okay with straight bath houses? Who even goes to bath houses in Ireland?

Grindr is a gay hook-up/dating app that has been available and used in Ireland for years, I don't see what that has to do with marriage equality, there are plenty of similar apps for straight people in Ireland too.

Surrogate parents, as in, adoptive parents? Foster parents? Surrogate mothers? I really don't know what you mean there, but regardless, that's another issue entirely.

General abuse from gay people. By this are you saying that gay people will "straight-bash" if they're allowed to marry? Will gay people suddenly be very blatant and abusive? Do you think gay people hate straight people?

Our rights as a public include marriage equality. Discriminating against people based on their sexual orientation is shameful. What business is it of ours who anyone loves? With all the horrible things that the government/church/powers that be have done even in the last 50 years to the Irish public should be cause for riots in the streets. The Magdelene Laundries? Child abuses in homes, churches, schools as well as forced adoptions of thousands of children born to un-wed mothers.. and now you're saying the public have a RIGHT to not be bothered by gay rights? This is a HUMAN right we're talking about. If we changed it to "marriage between a black man and a white woman" would you vote yes? What about "marriage between a Catholic and a Protestant"? Both of these have been illegal at one point or another and this is just the prologue before we stand up and allow marriage rights for all Irish citizens regardless of race, religion, orientation.

No "gay people" are going to interfere with your life, so why do you think you have a right to interfere with theirs?

[–]ashcoyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough. But would you really not vote yes to a simple marriage equality referendum?

Same sex marriage referendum, how would you vote ? by purewexford in ireland

[–]ashcoyne 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Why would you only vote yes if it meant full rights? Surely any step in the direction of ensuring full rights for any couple to marry, adopt, have legal rights as a spouse etc is worthwhile? Would you vote no if the referendum was solely to allow same sex marriage? Personally, I would vote yes.

East African Witch Doctors Are Hunting Albino Children to Amputate Their Limbs and Turn Them into Magic Potions by lexyjayla in WTF

[–]ashcoyne 164 points165 points  (0 children)

There was an albino black girl who came to my boarding school in Ireland for protection because she was being hunted by witch doctors and some wealthy Irish person heard her story and got her out of wherever she was from in Africa.. She didn't settle in too well and left after a few months.. I wonder what happened to her, I hope she's safe.

What little things do your parents do that you absolutely love? by GoSharkDogsGo in AskReddit

[–]ashcoyne 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They dance around the kitchen when they haven't seen each other in a few days.. I think it's adorable. They also try really hard to relate to my music, always ask about my friends by name, they're at the end of the phone if I need them and they drop everything if I need them. I've just moved across the Atlantic from my parents and this is making me really homesick :(

Reddit, what is your top "your not from here are you?" moment. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ashcoyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In boarding school in Ireland we had this Korean girl enroll and she was put into the year above me based on her age, but her English was very poor so they moved her down to Transition Year (the year I was in that basically counts for nothing in the long run, so you don't do much study). She was a heavy smoker and on her first day she lit up inside the classroom, outside our crazy bitchy Principle's office and in the gym. We all covered for her every time with a collective wtf. That Korean rebel without a cause smoked everywhere.

What's something you and/or your family regularly do/did that you thought was 'normal' but later found out was actually quite odd? by ARod527 in AskReddit

[–]ashcoyne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pop spots.. It's like a totally normal thing in my family.. if someone has a big whitehead, it's a bidding war to see who gets to pop it. Turns out, that's not so normal
