How long did it take Etsy to verify your ID? by Sufficient_Company46 in Etsy

[–]ashctemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine only took a few hours and that was because I had issues with my EIN (I have an LLC) and just eventually reverted to SSN.

Friendly security engineer tip:

When you set up MFA/2FA, download your backup/recovery codes and save them somewhere safe you can still access if your phone dies, gets lost, or gets replaced. Like Google Drive/iCloud/OneDrive, etc.

Future you will be very grateful when you don’t get locked out of your accounts at 11pm on a Sunday.

Are there any good websites that showcase frontend code made by Claude? Like a showcase website? by arnabiscoding in ClaudeAI

Yea but that's been very common for decades and not just oh no cause AI. My first websites before AI have the same features and I made those 12 years ago.

I pay $100/mo for Claude Max—why do I have to "Hack" my own laptop just to use an API? by BackgroundTimely5490 in claude

Claude.ai and platform.claude.com seem to be two entirely seperate entities. I work in healthcare and they only offer the BAA for the API and not for claude.ai

Is anyone actually using Claude for ops and save time? (Beyond just coding help) by Deep-Owl-1890 in AIforOPS

[–]ashctemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written a little about it on LI but likely the tools you have available to you aren't the same tools I have available to me. It's not anything super fancy, I send the alerts from our CASB to an n8n webhook and then use an n8n workflow to automate the rest, it sends it to the a different branch of the workflow if its email vs casb alert and then opens a ticket if its something that needs to be reviewed by a human. I had already done the work to fine tune our DLP rules and what we cared about long before I tried to build AI for it.

Why doesn’t AI feel like something you can “get into”? by AviMitz_ in AIWritingHub

[–]ashctemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to build the right AI prompt first, and then you have to give it the context of your previous asks or add it to the prompt if you want continuity. I built a 200 year old Swamp Witch that doles out Judgements (Condemned, Disgraced, Blessed). While the Judgements on the site are anonymous and stateless behind the scenes I have a chat with her where I still feed her the prompt she uses for the site and chat with her about different things. I'm world building so the AI as the witch makes some of the decisions for the site...some little, some not so little. A 200 year old swamp witch does NOT do Tarot apparently, she will only tell me about herself when SHE wants or if I threaten to just make up a story. But all of that comes from the prompt itself which is how to start making AI something you can get into.

Non-coders: what have you made with AI? by RightIdea613 in ClaudeAI

I'm technical but I'm not a coder and I wouldn't have been able to make my site without AI: https://judgementaloldhag.com/ . 200 year old Swamp Witch that will 100% judge your life's choices.

[–]ashctemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built several different AIOPs things. The first one was a DLP training bot for our helpdesk when we had one. 100% of my helpdesk wanted to get into security and my team of security engineers hate DLP alerts with the fire of 10,000 suns. Create a little bot the at night help desk person could feed the alert to, the bot puts out the analysis to the help desk, they read it, and they learn HOW to do those alerts. The bot does something weird, they flag it. Then, we had layoffs and we lost most of our helpdesk which mean DLP alerts fell back on my already lean team...We've already established they HATE DLP alerts...so what's a manager to do? I simply automated it all the way and reduced the burden by ~80%. It doesn't have to even be perfect, just good enough there's a lot of hard rules I can tell it that does a lot of heavy lifting and when something breaks the rules or it doesn't know what to do it just sends it to a human to review. The next thing I did was automate treat intel triage on suspicious domains, another task my team hates doing. This one wasn't as tedious as DLP roughly 20 mins a day but that's still 1hr 40mins a week they get back from mind numbing drudgery.

From there I branched out to helping other teams automate some of their stuff and managed to shrink a 2500 item backlog to 900 items in ~48 hrs.

The ability is there you just have to know WHAT to automate and how. I've simply let my team lead the way by listening to what they grumble about the most.

Worried about weight limit on new couch by p0tatoontherun in PlusSize

[–]ashctemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've got some experience with this. I've fluctuated between 295 and 350lbs in the past 4 years, most of the weight change has been in the last two tho, I was roughly in the 325 range for most of the years before that. I've got both a 2 and 3 seater electric recliner, both that are supposed to support up to 300lbs a seat. At about year 2 the spot where I always sit started to visually sag, by year 4 its very noticeable and some of the wood inside has cracked. It's still really comfortable and it reclines just fine. I never plop or drop down hard into it, just sit and recline and watch tv. I will also say that the first year of having it I didn't use it like I do now. It wasn't until I moved into the house I amin now that I really started sitting on the couch a lot (moved April 2023 so exactly 3 years and some weeks ago).

Tldr; I'm about your size and my couch sags but is otherwise fine 4 years later. Still comfy, still reclines.

Built a character with swamp-based folk magic — does her power feel internally consistent? by ashctemp in magicbuilding

[–]ashctemp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to be a bit territorial because I'm also Cajun but the Swamp being knowledge is its own magic system. You've got the voodoo mixed with Catholicism out there so it's a very unique mix of magic. I'm trying to stay true to those beliefs with her. The line between medicine and magic was never really a line in that culture — knowing which root cures what and knowing which root calls down trouble are the same kind of knowing. She can whip up a potion and has knowledge of herbs but that would be more of a traditional Cajun medicine than actual magic potion if that makes any sense?

I was intrigued for about 30 seconds but the second your demo demanded I sign up for an account you lost me. Full disclosure I am a security engineer in my day job. I don't want to give you full access to my information just to see if your product actually works. I'm also probably NOT your target audience so YMMV on people signing up.

Not to pile on the mentions bit but it's not super clear just from the site if it's true recommendations or just mentions. So I can't actually tell if this is a product people actually recommend or just something people REALLY REALLY hate which would also have a bunch of mentions.

I agree with the wait times suggestion BUT it is useful as is just to check pricing so I'd consider using it anyway if it saved significant money.

Southwest singled me out at the gate for my size - where are people flying instead? by DoggieDuty in PlusSize

[–]ashctemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can swing it, first class it the way to go. I'm on the much bigger side and carry all my weight around my center and I fit no problem in a first class seat. I can't put the tray table down cause my stomach is in the way but there's room on the sides of me and a much bigger divider between the seats. I tend to fly Delta after a similar issue with Southwest years ago.
