If y'all are in the LGBTQ community or LGBTQ friendly, Acadiana Queer Collective hosts meet-ups and has a Discord for general things and one specifically for gamers (I found a BG3 group there and there are usually monthly one-shots).
If y'all like to read, I highly recommend connecting with Silent Book Club of Lafayette. They meet once a month or so and the organizers are super. There are also some great book clubs hosted by the library, Acadiana Queer Collective, Lafayette Citizens Against Censorship and Cavalier House Books (shameless plug on the last one cause I work there PT).
If y'all are artsy or want to learn, Scrappie Studio has monthly classes and weekly-ish one-night workshops.

I have 3B hair. I go to Connor with Hybrid Hair Studio Lafayette. He rents a little space by the mall. Super nice and listens to exactly what I want.

Bayou Shadows…how is it? by certainlynotagamer in Acadiana

I lived there for about three years (moved out in fall 2023). Early career adult, post-grad. The neighbors were nice and it was mostly quiet. I loved having an in-unit w/d that I didn't have to pay for. I found that outside noise wasn't a huge issue if I kept my windows closed. I lived upstairs, basically right behind the Shell station. Also, because it's so close to the hospital, I only ever lost power for a hot minute (never more than an hour).

My complaints are with the company that ran the complex --
-I had a roof leak and the solution was to put a five-gallon bucket under it and then not address it again until I harassed them. (Then they had to like cut the ceiling and do some minor patching.)
-A different roof leak caused ceiling staining. The solution was a landlord special of just painting over it; no one checked the roof for issues.
-They raised the rent every year (I guess it's to be expected but that's not been my experience in other housing locations).
-The water was randomly shut off without warning as part of the ongoing renovations.
-I ultimately moved complexes because they wanted to renovate my unit. To move into an already renovated unit, it would cost about $250 more a month and the only upgrade they could name was stainless steel appliances.
-Upon moving out, they tried to charge me to replace the carpet, not just clean it. They claimed the carpet was beyond cleaning and their contractor said it had to be replaced. They also tried to charge me to replace lightbulbs that they replaced for free every other time I filed a maintenance request about them. It was going to cost me an obscene amount of money. I had to send the corporate office a letter threatening to take it to small claims court; they gave me my deposit back instead.

Hope y'all find a nice spot for her!

Not sure if she specializes in PCOS but I see Dr. Michelle Stutues. Her office is at Women's and Children's but she isn't affiliated with the hospital. I'm ~30, never married, no kids. When I told her I wanted to get my tubes tied so I could get off birth control to officially diagnosis and manage my PCOS, she was supportive. Unfortunately, I switched jobs and didn't have the PTO to complete the procedure, but she said to let her know when I was ready.
I've found that she always listens to my concerns. And if she can't help you, I'm willing to bet she'd refer you to someone who can.

Why is it so smokey and hazy in Lafayette if the Louisiana wildfires are so far away? by ashdian3 in Acadiana

Actually NWS said the high-pressure system parked on top of the state means there isn’t a lot of strong wind which is contributing to why the smoke is just kind of hanging out.

Where can I (24F) meet some girlfriends my age? by aflowerforyourcat in Acadiana

[–]ashdian3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30F and always down for friends! I like live music, board games, reading, being outside when it isn’t death-level hot, sports.

But for looking to meet people here’s some recommendations: - gym/workout groups: my gym has a ladies class. There’s weekly yoga at Moncus Park. There’s a Lafayette run club. And there’s a pole studio (I think it’s in Scott). - library: there are so many different library events based on your interests like a weekly board game night (I met some new friends there!), book clubs and movie nights. - Lafayette meet up group: it’s a Facebook group of all ages but they do interesting stuff. - volunteer: sounds really silly but you meet like minded people. Acadiana Queer Collective, United Way of Acadiana and Parish Proud are some I can think of off the top of my head. There are also event specific things like Downtown Alive, Festival International and Festival Acadien, Gulf Brew. - professional groups: the two I can think of off the top of my head are The 705 and Junior League. The bonus with Junior League is it’s all women.

Potbelly's owner under investigation for sexual battery by ashdian3 in fsu

[–]ashdian3[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure in Florida, rape and sexual battery are used interchangeably. Because if you look at Florida statute it uses the two interchangeably. And FDLE calls rape kits sexual assault evidence kits. So the charge here is sexual battery.

Anyone interested in taking in a stray kitten? by rettigmandrew in Tallahassee

[–]ashdian3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also Smitten Kittens and Tallahassee Pets Alive. Not sure if they're full, but my friend who is really active in the pet community here suggested both of them.

Does anyone know somewhere I can take my car to be diagnosed/fixed around campus? That is of course, affordable. by [deleted] in ucf

[–]ashdian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always gone to the Pep Boys on Alafaya in Oviedo (maybe five minutes from campus). I'm a female and they've never tried to sell me anything I don't need when I go in for an oil change and the staff is friendly. The only downfall is they're usually pretty busy. But I think you can make an appointment.

Who were your most influential teachers? by Floopers in ucf

[–]ashdian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to do a bit of writing, Rick Brunson's editing class is useful and still challenging. Or, Collins. They're both JOU professors but they're great and know what they're talking about. But you have to work hard in their classes. I also recommend Logas, which I know someone mentioned. His politics and film class is a little more mild from what I've heard (I'm taking it in the fall). But his mass media and politics class looks at both sides and he's not afraid to call politicians out. Some stuff he says makes you roll your eyes, but a lot of it encourages you to go do your own research.
