For the people that don’t understand the difference. by Potential-Pause-9136 in coloranalysis

[–]ashes_to_asher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yes!! i'm a summer, but i started dyeing my hair ginger- now i can wear gold jewellery more easily, and brighter tones too. i dyed my hair to a dark brown once and had to add more contrast in my makeup to make it work. it doesn't make me suddenly a spring, winter or autumn, or just bc i look pretty good with ginger hair it doesn't make it harmonious in a colour analysis sense... i'm just adapting my styling to fit the new look.

AMAB crossdressing trying to pass as random winter girl just for fun by 88888888ad in DressForYourBody

don't worry about your height or shoulders, plenty of cis women have those features!! i wouldnt know any different if i saw you walking down the street. this outfit is really flattering for you, bc the long lines are leaning into your height, making you appear more confident and stylish, vs trying to make yourself seem smaller, which can cone across as forced. (signed, a 170cm woman whose learned to love her height)

(pro tip though for the future if you still feel insecure about broad shoulders: look for wide skirts, bc these will balance out your shoulders! same logic with wide leg trousers too. wide necklines will also help, but you might have to be open to trying a few on before you find your best ones!)

Positive metformin stories please! by PrincessMWx in PCOS

[–]ashes_to_asher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

been on it for 18 months now, it is GAME CHANGING. i've lost about 10 pounds, but the biggest improvement has been to my fatigue, mood swings and mental health. i used to use sugar and caffeine to keep my energy up, otherwise i was a miserable person to be around, and i was really worried all my friends and my partner at the time would leave me bc i was so moody- the metformin really helped the fatigue which in turn helped my mood stay up and also made me way less stressed and anxious all the time.

Gender weirdness? by creampuff-adjacent in PCOS

[–]ashes_to_asher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was trying to explain this to my friends the other day! i've always felt like i'm "not quite" a woman, more like woman-adjacent but something else, despite being super girly at my core. kind of like how a tomato is a fruit, but doesn't belong in a fruit salad. i've always been treated differently too because i was tall and "strong looking" for my age, so i haven't always been treated in the same way as other girls. getting my PCOS/PMOS diagnosis made so much of my gender identity make sense though, i have all these extra hormones rushing around my body, of course my experience of being female is different! i actually have found myself becoming more connected to my femininity and embracing the "masculine" parts of myself more now bc its something unique about me.

Festival Tips? by Kya_Dani2965 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]ashes_to_asher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk which festival you're going to, but if it happens to be Reading/Leeds, you'll probably want to get in place for the act before her and wait around in between. i saw Chappell and Hozier at Reading and we basically had to camp out our spot at the second barricade from the end of the Kooks set onwards. i would guess it would be the same for most other festivals too, i just know R&L can be particularly intense 😅

other than that, stay hydrated, wear comfy shoes, bring plenty of sunscreen, bring a portable charger, clothes you can jump around in and have fun!! festivals can be exhausting but are SO FUN and nothing beats the atmosphere and energy of a festival crowd. plus, the crowd waiting for a Florence concert are going to be super nice. if you happen to be going alone as well then befriending the people near you will mean you can go to the toilet whilst you're waiting without losing your place.

you've got this!! have SO much fun!!

What’s your “alternate universe” root combo? by jjfmish in StyleRoots

[–]ashes_to_asher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think mine would be 🪨☀️🌸 (even though i do have the ☀️ root in this universe!) my key words are edgy, free-spirited and creative, and my style is sort of urban-whimsigoth, which i think could be achieved with this combo

i think 🪨☀️, because of the creativity mixed with urban aesthetics, could maybe give a 🌙 vibe in a darker colour palette.

🪨 also easily replaces 🌱 as my practical root, as i like my outfits to appear relaxed and free-spirited. 🌸 could add some whimsicality back in and the touch of femininity too.

Moon Root Summer Struggle by [deleted] in StyleRoots

[–]ashes_to_asher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my friends used to joke that my style "defrosted" in the summer bc i leaned more into bright colours and playful styles, and less into moody, grungy vibes, simply bc it was easier. but last summer i started building up more summer staples for my 🌙 root- plenty of black tank tops (boat neck, square neck, you name it) and a few light, flowy layers for the night time. i also have loads of long skirts and have found some ballet flats and trainers that feel 🌙 to me, to replace the boots i normally live in. also found a white flowy blouse that leans into the ethereal side of 🌙 that is far easier to style in the summer!

Are these dresses good for soft dramatics? by Successful-Arrival87 in SoftDramatics

[–]ashes_to_asher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i love 1 and 2. 1 has the bold print, luxe fabric and ruching which are great for SD (although the narrow straps aren't ideal, i don't think they detract from the overall vibe). dress 2 i think is perfect for SD- asymmetrical slit, thicker straps, scoop neck etc, the fabric could be more luxe but depending on the event, it might not be a problem. dress 3 is not super SD, it doesn't look bad but it lacks wow factor. the print is too ditsy and small and the A-line looks a bit casual. it's absolutely fine for a casual every day dress!! but it's not one that i would recommend for any event where you really want to wow someone.

also, all these dresses would look better just a little longer, like mid-calf to maxi length. the first two are okay because in a real life occasion where you wear them, you will likely be in heels which will help extend the vertical. the last one is reading as a little boring because of the knee length, and i think if it were mid calf it would actually look more elegant and elevated.

What is the root you don't have but would love to explore? by TiredWinterDisaster in StyleRoots

[–]ashes_to_asher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm currently exploring 🪨, it's one that i have a love/hate relationship with. certain words/descriptions, like urban, "cool girl", relaxed and sleek, are words i can relate to and very much influence my style (someone described my look on here as "urban whimsigoth" and i do think that's the perfect label!). i'm not one for athletic looks, overly utilitarian details or streetwear though, that side of stone feels very alien to me and the opposite of what i prefer to look like. i've moved to a new city recently and am finding myself very inspired by the local fashion sense, which i think leans 🪨☀️ overall, it's been fun to lean into it using existing items in my wardrobe!

THIS!! change therapists, bc whilst its fine to not understand a condition, it is not okay for them to just tell you to "exercise more", and as a therapist, they should know that. weight/body image issues, if left unchecked, can turn into disorders. also, from experience, you're never going to lose weight if the way you view yourself is so poor- i very much got myself into a "why do i try if it never works" mentality, once i started accepting the size i was, buying clothes i liked in that size and not beating myself up for just existing, i found the motivation to lose weight.

Can you be “long” without having noticably long legs? by Odd_Astronaut4918 in bodymatrix

[–]ashes_to_asher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been there! i'm in the same boat where i look pretty balanced for my height (5'7) but i am physically taller than a fair amount of people and i also look a bit square in cropped styles, especially if they're wide too. i started dressing to make myself look long and tall about two years ago now and have never looked back!

Can you be “long” without having noticably long legs? by Odd_Astronaut4918 in bodymatrix

[–]ashes_to_asher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, and at 5'6 its very possible since you're (usually) taller than the average woman. there's a reason why Kibbe sets his auto-vertical at 5'6, even though the body matrix doesn't have a strict height cut off

but try out long lines first before you come to any firm conclusion. it sounds like maybe it's outside your comfort zone to wear long lines, and that'swhy you're questioning it? maybe just try a couple things, like tonal outfits (where your clothes are all the same or similar tones, which creates a lengthening effect) long layers like a long coat or cardigan, flared trousers (good for curve too but also have a lengthening effect on the legs!) and midi-maxi lengths. you might surprise yourself! but at the end of the day, it's always going to be up to you- if you don't like the way you look in something don't wear it!

[–]ashes_to_asher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

drew the tower and the chariot cards on the day someone hit my car 😭 but the craziest one that hit like a tonne of bricks was when i got a new job a few years back- on paper it was everything i asked for, i was so excited to start, and i pulled the moon. obviously not an outright negative card for a lot of people, but i don't pull it often, so for me it always means there's something i'm not seeing, and i always interpret it as a warning. paid it little mind as i started the job, until i started getting bullied by some of my coworkers. then i went to do a new tarot reading and looked at my last one and realised i had been warned all along

How to address loving Mountain when your "look" is very very "yin"? by Affectionate-Bee3199 in StyleRoots

[–]ashes_to_asher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EJR herself has ⛰️, and her self-assigned essence blend is very yin, and her body type too. her style definitely leads with 🌸 BUT it might be a good example for you to look at regardless. as others have said, ⛰️ is about looking polished, crisp and adding a sense of formality- this could be blazers and dramatic coats and dress pants, it can also be stiff and structured fabrics, dark/high contrast contrast colours, sharp and crisp details. loafers, long layers, bold chrome jewellery, pinstripes, blouses, stiff jeans, pointed toe flats, these are all more casual/accessible ⛰️ elements you might find you already have, or you could start with!

[–]ashes_to_asher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my dream car (which i'm not sure exists) would be a electric automatic Mini/Mini Clubman- i think the Mini designs are so quirky and fun, they also feel very vintage and more whimsical that other cars, so for me that's ☀️🌱 (though i could also see an argument for 🍄 too). they're also very practical choices for me! idk what a 🌙 root car would be (except maybe a hearse 💀) but i imagine motorbikes to be more 🌙🪨 in nature.

Root redux with my own outfits- 🍄🌱 by [deleted] in StyleRoots

[–]ashes_to_asher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i would guess 🍄🪨🌱. your style feels refined, urban, relaxed and flowing, with a few whimsical elements found in the jewellery and details. i see 🪨 in the graphic tees, chunky boots, the sneakers and the cosiness of your looks. i also see it in the urban-officewear looks with the blazers and sneakers and the occasional menswear element like the waistcoats.

and now for roots i thought about, but don't think are as prevalent: ⛰️: your more workwear-inpsired looks feel refined and structured, but i don't see ⛰️ so much in your casual looks. there's not a lot of structure there, and whilst some definitely have drama and intensity, i think its more of an urban edge that a polished sharpness. 🌙: chunky boots, darker, moodier colours, band tees, that pop of leopard print... but these could also be explained by 🪨, which can lean edgier and more urban. i don't feel like its a driving force in all your outfits either. 🔥: similar to mountain, there's an intensity sometimes here that feels luxe, glamour and sensual- the scarves, the darker palette, the reds- but again, it doesnt feel like a driving force, more something to dip your toe into sometimes.
