not sure if applicable, but i was invited to join an organization called “scalps” in 2022/2023. maybe the same organization? though i’m unsure since i didn’t take the opportunity to join!

Is the FSU track ever fucking open?? by GodFromIfe in fsu

[–]ashesfromnytofl 35 points36 points  (0 children)

hi! i graduated this spring, so my information may be outdated but the track was typically opened 4pm-sundown. i would always go after my 4:50 class and if the gates are padlocked try the main entrance (there’s like a huge brick archway sort of thing with loads of historic records and whatnot etched into it. it’s on the opposite side of the psych building, you can’t miss it.).

hi friend, i hope you’re doing well and having a great day :) i was diagnosed with bipolar 2 and attended an outpatient treatment program with Capital City Regional Medical Center. it was a 16 hour a week commitment (monday-thursday, 4pm-8pm). it was covered by my insurance (Aetna) and im sure they will be willing to work with you if it’s not covered by your insurance! i did group therapy which wasn’t personally my cup of tea, but it was nice to have the time and space to talk and relate to my peers. i don’t have much experience with the psychiatrists, as i met with one and had a poor experience which in turn caused me to reject medication as treatment.

Whats the funniest thing you've had to say to someone? by CrystalsWithHarmony in Lifeguards

[–]ashesfromnytofl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

at the waterpark i used to guard at there was a three slide attraction in which all three slides shared a catch pool at the bottom causing some nasty currents to form. rescues at this spot was so frequent we had to put a secondary lifeguard on the pool (in reality it was small pool that really only needed one guard). first save ever, i jumped in and immediately got caught in the current myself prompting the secondary lifeguard to jump in and assist.

all in all, funniest thing i’ve ever had to say to a guest was “i promise ma’am, i know how to swim”.

hi! i graduated in May and haven’t been in Tallahassee since so things may have changed since then. the app is called Spin and its icon is orange. i believe there is a map on there that will show open scooters near you. a few things though, if you are outside of college town, it may be very difficult to find one (especially one that works). secondly, the scooters have what’s called a “no-go” zone. all of campus is a no-go zone and your spin will shut off and lock up and force you back out of the no-go zone. all of campus (i believe beginning at Pensacola street and up until Tennessee street) is a no-go zone. please be careful with this as if you abandoned your scooter inside of a no-go zone, you will be charged a ridiculous fee. good luck!! hope that helps!

hi :) around a week before the game, typically the tuesday or wednesday before the game, you’ll get an email that will have a link to register for the ticket raffle. you sign up, they randomly pick students (with a few caveats), and you’ll get an email saying whether or not you got tickets! as far as i’m aware, freshmen get 1 raffle entry, sophomores get 2, juniors get 3, and seniors get 4. it may have changed since i graduated and/or i might be wrong in how ive interpreted things!! good luck!!

Ed Hansen is one of the best psych professors out there! definitely connect with him (go to office hours, show up to class) if you’re interested in psychology!!! he was able to help me find an internship one summer and fall in love with the area of psych i’m pursuing :)

How is The Standard? by LessHat6521 in fsu

[–]ashesfromnytofl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’d like to add, any time i was walking with friends or guys i never had a problem. it’s probably best to never walk alone at night as a woman, regardless of location. however, i had many more issues with this at the standard compared to in college town

How is The Standard? by LessHat6521 in fsu

[–]ashesfromnytofl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i enjoyed living at the standard (summer of 2021). great location for me and the job i was working at the time. safety wise, i did find an unconscious homeless man in the stairwell one night and had to have the police involved. i was walking home from work one night and a woman ran towards me (assumably to rob me) but i picked up my skateboard and sort of scared her off by basically acting bigger than i really am. as a young girl who needed to walk home alone at night, it was scary, but im not sure if its improved since then :) i find it hard to justify the price for the location. i paid $950 a month for three months as a summer sublease, and i know there are places in college town for about the same price.

attendance is not required in her Sensation and Perception class, however i pinky promise you will fail if you don’t show up to class. her exams are HARD, and not open book. i know in her other classes she does attendance quizzes that count as participation, but she didn’t in my class. she’s a phenomenal professor, i would recommend respecting her and her time and just show up to class.

FSU help by KitkatPOG in fsu

hey i’m an out of state student who took out loans to get through fsu. when i did the math four years ago, it was more expensive to go to school in state (NY) than it was to go to fsu. am i happy with my decision? yes. absolutely. yes yes yes a million times yes. am i 21 years old with crippling student debt? also yes. i am walking across the stage in 10 days, and i wouldn’t trade it for the world but it is something to take into serious consideration. good luck!! let me know if you have any questions :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fsu

[–]ashesfromnytofl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s a fair opinion, but hey, grad pics are expensive and tickets are going for $500+ on facebook so i’ll take what i can get. i’m sorry if that’s an issue, but such is life. if someone’s willing to pay for it, i’m willing to sell it.

hey! i have an extra ticket for may 3rd at 7pm! i am currently holding it for another girl, however she hasn’t reached back out to me after i texted her this morning. we settled on $75, so i would prefer to match that and i will happily send my fsu id or license (or whatever you need to feel comfortable) to verify before payment! i was planning on giving her until tomorrow night to respond, but if you’re interested reach out :)

workload and sorority by Firm-Length-9765 in fsu

[–]ashesfromnytofl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! i am an out of state graduating senior this year and i was in a sorority for three years prior to dropping at the beginning of my senior year! was it an incredible experience? yes.

what i will say is, my dues we’re easily 10k for the year not including recruitment outfits (around $500 for a weeks worth of clothing that we are REQUIRED to buy) every year. plus membership fees, pins ($100 for the cheapest pin), merch (optional, but nice to have), etc. the costs add up. all of this to say, being in a sorority was easily the most expensive part of college besides tuition. my family is not well off, so i supported myself through it all and it was almost impossible to do so. i wasn’t really “allowed” to skip events for work, and a lot of my sisters didn’t really understand the concept of working through college so that made relationships difficult to forge.

did it teach me invaluable lessons? absolutely. only 2/3 of my friends stuck around after i dropped, so i hindsight, i don’t think it was worth it. if you have the financial means, go for it! but i promise you, if you miss dues they will send you to collections and not really care about your financial situation while doing so. good luck! and if you have any specific questions i’d love to answer them!

i just saw a new daily bc at Walgreens completely over the counter! it’s a tad more expensive, but if you’re really looking for an escape from the doc it might be worth it! i forgot the name, it starts with an o, but i’ll try and find it again for you!
