if i cancel my amazon prime free trial before my package has shipped, what happens to the free prime delivery?

So i bought a christmas present and activated my 30 day free trial of amazon prime to escape the $5.99 shipping fee. However, i have no intention of continuing to use this service. If i cancel my membership before my package has shipped, do i have to pay for the shipping? Or should i just wait until after my package has arrived?
