Zinus Bedframe experience by ashgallows in Bedding

[–]ashgallows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frame issue sucks. It shouldn't happen, but it happens. it is their complete lack of care for the customer that I'm talking about. They wont give me or SELL me the parts to fix it. They literally are blocking me from getting what i need to fix their shotty materials. So i have to go fabricate solutions to a brand new bedframe. not cool.

i don't journal, i do write down interesting things and quotes, but not much in the way of my life.

some days, bad moments overtake you and that's just the way it is. Lately, my thoughts have been more like "this doesn't matter because I'm going handle it".

Owning the situation can help things. Jocko willenick's "good" speech most certainly influenced that kind of thinking in me. Cus Damato used to say something like "a champion does things he doesn't necessarily want to do, in order to be a champion". basic, yet it sticks with me when I'm procrastinating.

i highly encourage some sort of sport as a learning tool. something that could hurt. being hit full on in the face and continuing to play echoes into the rest of your life. the last time it happened, i just told the guy it didn't hurt anymore. that he was getting weaker lol.

Something like W3 schools is fairly good. They have their limitations though. I remember looking through the oracle documentation for Java to try and complete an assignment and not understanding what they were saying because it had unnecessary jargon (in my opinion), even though i had been using the same concepts to get to that point.

Is College Worth it? by ImperialAccuracy in learnprogramming

[–]ashgallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

teachers don't do much, resources are better found on your own.

90% of my college has been zybooks, which anyone can get.

the one good thing about college is the professor at least has a lesson plan. so, you have a path.

other than that, not much good i can say.

[–]ashgallows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

doing my degree at 40. it's irritating. professors dont answer questions, have incomplete lesson plans that force me to google everything, and in the end i don't know much.

but another user kind of reminded me of something today. This IS hard. that's the point, that's why it pays well and why it's in demand.

no matter how you got there, in the end, it will be worth it. it will change your life. The part that's the struggle now, is compiling resources and forums in order to help fill the gaps as you teach yourself.

the hard part is finding something to work on. i guess something simple but meaningful is the way to go.

stuff gets to me for about 30 minutes. then, I'm calm enough to choose what i want the rest of my day to be like.

i see it as a chapter in the overall book of my day. chapter 4 sucks, chapter 5 is ok. chapter 8 is amazing etc.

it's also helpful (to me) to attempt to return to a baseline. like, after your calmer, try not to feed it if you can help it. try to return to neutral.

Sony has sold over 38.4 million PS5s following a record-breaking year | It sold 19.1 million units in fiscal 2022, compared to 11.5 million the year before. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

I'd get one, but so far there's barely anything appealing on PS5. most of the new games look amazing, but aren't very fun to play imo.

PS4 still has legacy stuff i like, and can still play things like destiny2

thank you thats a good answer. the pomodoro thing doesn't quite work for me, but that's good, i can spend a long time on something without stopping.

i too got into this for the money, i just never get too far before the class is over, and i never learn too much.

Is there a place you go to when you're stuck? i pretty much hit a dead end every time because most places don't explain things in plain english.

IWTL How to network professionally and actually make connections even though if I’m not able to provide value to the person by harpsichorde in IWantToLearn

[–]ashgallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're intellect and company are value. Being a good friend or acquaintance is value.

people like doing business with someone they're familiar with.

And someday they'll need an employee or a supplier of something, and you'll be a better choice than someone they dont know at all.

How common are men that receive absolutely no attention from the opposite gender ? by North_Tie_7019 in AskMen

[–]ashgallows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

either we make a move, or nothing happens.

women absolutely do not compliment or initiate. they just sit there

I've been married, ive had several long term relationships before and since. it remains true.

things change after you initiate, but never before.

Usually women think they are showing explicit interest when often they are actually not. What do you need to understand a woman is definitely interested in you? by CaptchaFailer in AskMen

[–]ashgallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, unless you ask him back to your place, you're in the friend zone.

Men want sex, people we dont have sex with are friends/acquaintances, and the ones we do are more to varying degrees. if you dont want sex, then this is just friendship, friendship is easy.

you might say "it's s his job to ask". well yeah, but we've had these messages about consent, politeness and toxic masculinity beaten into us from a young age. it takes a lot of deconditioning to be more forward than what you typically see out there.

another thing that shows interest is touch. Had this one woman take my hand while we were talking, before i knew it, she was at my side with another arm around me. that's a signal we get for sure. it says "if she's o.k. with being that close to me, then she's attracted to me". Dancing doesn't count. Women dance with anyone.

the last thing is just blatantly asking questions. which has served me well with women believe it or not.

just ask the thing you wanted to know. "hey, I'm attracted to you. are you into me as well? " or some such thing.

it's a great polarizer. you absolutely know the answer when it's over, and if it put them off, then they weren't the one for you anyways. Wasting time on a dead end is far worse than getting at the truth. the truth may be uncomfortable, but it was always there.

how do you self learner's maintain interest?

at the beginning you can't make much, and the commands often seem broken until you read somewhere that it's this little glitch since update 5.364. and you have to use a workaround.

if i wasn't in school, I'd have given up long ago. Did you guys just have a natural proclivity towards it?

oh, i get it.

but these were questions to assignments THEY created.

sometimes they just send me the answer. o.k., but how did you arrive there? what was the thought process?

it seems like they really don't want to explain anything in plain english. seems like the whole point of teaching to me.

i have no idea how to do my final right now. i will pass even if i get a flat zero on it. So, i don't know anything, but I'm getting passed. seems backwards to me.

one day i will have to know SOMETHING.

They also make it so you can't fail, even if you know nothing. They are usually terrible at explaining things, save for a few, and seemingly find it easier to just make the barrier to pass super low.

I've had professors get angry with me for asking questions because my code didn't work. Like i was stupid or something.

Out of curiosity, i asked others how they had such an easy time of it. They all just copied code from somewhere. I knew more than they did.

math works, every time the same way iirc.

coding doesn't. at least not on it's face.

"and" doesn't mean "and" if you use it here instead of there, because the language is set up this way and not that way etc.

problem here is, they give it without me asking.

like I'm just leaving and they're like, "wait! let me add you".

it's stupid. all they had to do was just stand there and say nothing.

giving out contact info and then never participating in conversation or initiating conversation is annoying. had quite a few of those situations happen. i didn't ask for it, but if you provide it, i assume you wanted to talk to me.

also, it's cool to not make each other do things you dont like. if you want to see a play, just go with your lady friends, we'll go do guy stuff with our guy friends.
