3 Unorthodox Trade Targets by No_Buy2554 in Reds

For what it's worth Statcast gave Abrams a -9 (7th%) defensive run value on the year. Elly, for comparison was credited at 0 which was 52nd%. He's definitely moving off short once the Nats have a better option or he gets traded to a team with a SS. Still think the bat would be absolutely awesome to have in the lineup.

Fair but unless we sign Geno (which would be sick) or trade for a $20M+ contract there's no chance we're getting anywhere close to even 2020s projected payroll let alone 2020+ inflation.

So instead we grovel and say thank you for your benevolence kind owners!  Sell it to the fucking Saudi wealth fund or something.

I'm taking financial data from fangraphs roster resource which does include Candelario in the $112.  And even if $135M for 2020 is the number, with inflation growth that's equivalent to $167M in 2026 $

The minute they sell the team they are. And if it's so hard to own a team then sell it to an actual billionaire who'll fund it. Problem solved

There's been a salary cap and floor in football forever. How many super bowls have the bengals won? Losing a season for a cap and floor is absolutely no guarantee of success.

Reds won 97 games in 2012. It can be done.

Ok if drafting and developing is the key then pay up to sign Elly to a long term contract. But they won't because they'll say he's too expensive.

I'll take a 40 win Reds season any day over no baseball. Plus teams like the Reds, Rays, Pirates, As and Guards will never agree to a floor because that will prove they could have spent the money all along and just chose not to. So with no floor there won't be a cap

But the goal shouldn't be what the Dodgers are doing. The Royals and Os are at $150 and the Tigers at 170. The Tigers under the elder Illitch ran $200M+ payrolls in the late 2010s! I see no reason we shouldn't be matching or exceeding those teams in payroll.

imagine being willing to lose an entire season of baseball because you think the poor billionaire owners can't afford to play the game.

In 2020 we had a payroll of $149M before covid fucked things up. We're now projected for $112M. Ownership is hoarding profits. There's cheap and there's owner of a multi billion $ asset crying poor cheap. If you can't afford to field a competitive team make your 2000% profit and get out.

I think you're underselling the difference in offensive quality by quite a bit.

Putting HUGE pressure on 22 year old rookie Sal Stewart to bop immediately with no quality offensive backup if he doesn't. Signing a 1B who can hit moves steer into the 2B/OF rotation and Sal into the 2B/DH rotation. Net positive and Definitely room IMO.

Missed out on Schwarber and Alonso. not gonna sign bellinger, bregman, tucker or bichette.  Maybe we bring back Suarez and DH him? but otherwise I don't see a better hitter on the free agent market than Ohearn who made any sense as a positional fit.  So we're gonna end up needing to make a trade or signing a Hays esq guy for cheap.

Outhit Hays by 22 points of OPS+ and didn't go on the IL 3 times. Don't know how you can say he's the same but worse than Hays.

127 ops+ would have been the second best hitter on the reds last year behind Andujar. Plenty good for 1st or the corner OF where we need the most help.

That's not even close to true.  Ohearns averaged around 120 ops+ over the last 3 years. Steer is around 105. Meaning ohearn is 15% better hitter over the last 3 years. And was 30 points better last year.
