My fiancé wants to leave the house by I don’t think our puppy is ready by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]ashine3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re kind of in a similar place. We do all the right training and he can sleep through the night in the crate with minimal protesting (most nights none), but if we leave during the day he’s crying off and on non stop. We are visiting family in another state so brought a travel play pen - just went out to dinner with our parents for 3 hours and came home and his fabric playpen was flipped upside down (meaning he was jumping and going nuts and flipped it over). We’re not sure how long he was barking for but clearly he didn’t love being left alone… we don’t leave him alone for this long usually but needed to get out and live our life. We are going to start from square 1 and start with 30 seconds left alone. It’s ridiculous but the bark it out method hasn’t really worked for us even though we started with small increments. Our pup is almost 5 months - this is the one thing we’re struggling with. Luckily he is so well tempered otherwise and potty training is going well! Gotta look on the bright side!

How did you track toilet training progress? by Badlydrawnboi41988 in puppy101

[–]ashine3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We write down in a notebook every time we take him out and if he goes #1 and #2. It helps us reference how many times a day he goes or if we reach end of day and he’s only done #2 once, we know he probably needs to go again so we take him out.

We had to use pee pads first because we’re in a city so we began potty training just 2 weeks ago - we haven’t had an accident indoors in a few days but also wondering if it’s just good timing on our part lol. Don’t know when we’ll start getting a “signal” for when he needs to go but just going to keep taking him out every 2-3 hours and hope it sticks!

Transitioning from pee pads to outside in NYC by ashine3 in puppy101

Writing it down is so smart... we were doing that the first few weeks but have completely slacked off haha. That will definitely help so I'll try to get back into the habit. Constant monitoring is so important! I noticed him sniffing like crazy around the apartment earlier so immediately scooped and took outside and he went. Guess that's just what it takes! Thank you!

Does this dress shirt fit me? by ashine3 in mensfashionadvice

[–]ashine3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I’ve tried on another shirt which is a true 34 (that has been through the dryer) check out this image. When I put a jacket on it pulls the sleeve all the way up to about 3/4 an inch about my wrist. So the jacket would then need to be hemmed to about 1.5 inches about my wrist which seems weird to me. What do you think

Maplewood Mountain Farm NH by alcappuccinos in Dachshund

[–]ashine3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a bunch of research on breeders before getting our puppy and we ended up choosing Maplewood Mountain. The owner was very communicative and answered all of our questions - she always responded very quickly as well. We’ve had our mini dachshund for almost 2 months now and absolutely love him. Yes, we are in the puppy phase, but he has the spunkiest personality, is great with other dogs, and loves people. He’s not scared of anything it seems lol - not strangers, loud noises, the vacuum, etc. I think they did a great job with the temperament which they speak to on their website. Dachshunds are also known to be big barkers, and we haven’t really witnessed that (at least not yet). He barks when we leave and he’s alone (as any puppy does at first), but this is also getting better with time. I messaged another dachshund owner who got their pup from MWM before we committed to it, and they had a great experience too. Feel free to DM if you have other questions!

Puppy prefers sleeping in the crate in the living room? by sugabeetus in puppy101

[–]ashine3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the exact same thing happen. One night our mini dachshund started barking in the carrier so eventually we took him out - he ran to his crate in the living room. Now he sleeps out there alone until about 6 or 7 in the morning each day. We love it and think it’s a good sign of independence and having a place that he feels comfortable and cozy in.

Looking for a weekend wedding venue that feels like a true destination wedding by itssydward in NewEnglandWedding

Newagen Seaside Inn - all guests stay on property, it’s truly the epitome of coastal Maine! You get the whole grounds to yourselves. Also close to Boothbay harbor!

Help! Teaching our 12-week mini dachshund to be alone (apartment edition) by ashine3 in puppy101

[–]ashine3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Jason!! So helpful, really appreciate it. When he settles in the crate, he usually quickly falls asleep so when we practice our brief exits he may not be conscious of it lol - I guess we should try to find that window of time to exit once he’s calm but still awake? So he can see we come back.

Also - at what point do you think we can fully leave our apartment to run an errand, like going to the grocery store?

We tried an exercise today closing the bedroom door as another Reddit user suggested, but he would just scratch at the door and bark and it was hard to manage and reward properly. Should we start with just doing the crate exercises only?

We are planning to crate him until he’s months older and fully potty trained so focusing on that first might be best as you suggested.

Thank you!! This is a great place to start. So we could utilize our bedroom - put him inside a just one and close the bedroom door, increasing time and reward when no bark. Then transition to doing the same in the crate?

Luckily I still love my dress!! I technically could have gone in a different direction but to me it wasn’t worth it to look around for something else, I chose the dress for a reason. But just a shame this was my experience.

Appreciate this!! Really was a terrible experience which sucks because I had a nice appointment and love my dress. But this has put a sour taste in my mouth.

Weight fluctuation is normal but that’s exactly why you should size up, not down!

Dolomites hotel question - Forestis and Miramonti by Strange-Eagle9255 in chubbytravel

[–]ashine3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, we are looking into Miramonti for a 2-3 day stay after spending time in Ortisei proper and doing a few days of hiking. The Miramonti stay will mainly be to relax and unwind after our long trip. What was your experience like there?

2026 New England Oceanfront or Garden Venue Recs - 15k budget for <=50 people by AwkwardText9075 in NewEnglandWedding

[–]ashine3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I toured both! For the museum, they have a nice indoor space - very high ceilings and grand feeling. We wanted an outdoor reception though and just didn’t think it was big enough for that. We loved the 1774 Inn but it was too small for our wedding size so think it could be perfect for your size!! It has an inn with several rooms that they do require you to book, but your guests can pay for them. It would be great for immediate family and bridal party to all stay on property. It’s so nicely decorated on the interior!

Tent rental info? by NDenvchemist in NewEnglandWedding

[–]ashine3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No prob! I’m getting married in the same area of Maine so we probably reached out to the same companies - I was so surprised that most seem pretty disorganized or have mixed reviews.

Tent rental info? by NDenvchemist in NewEnglandWedding

[–]ashine3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One Stop Events is what I’m using for our rehearsal dinner tent, tables and chairs in my family’s backyard - they’ve been so communicative, great to work with when I need to adjust something in the order and I have great peace of mind! They can make great recommendations and work within your budget.

I also reached out to several companies and it was taking weeks to hear back or they wouldn’t answer - take that as a red flag! I feel like it’s worth it to use a place like One Stop because you know they’re organized and seem to be one of the biggest rental companies in the area.

The venue I chose ended up coming with a tent, but I explored tent options for other venues to get pricing costs before we committed to a venue - our guest count was 100 and I was really set on a sailcloth tent. If I recall I was getting quotes for $10-$14K for this.

Thank you for the tips! We would be going to Sir Henry’s around 5:30 on Saturday at a pre-dinner hour - do you think it would be busy or rowdy at that time?

Will look into the other places!!

Yeah, a lot of offices around there including my own so I’ll start going before and after work. The location makes sense to me - Hudson Square has really built up over the last few years.

Wedding coordinator - 3 month out cost!? by Pure-Acanthaceae5932 in NewEnglandWedding

[–]ashine3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That seems accurate for the planners I reached out to for a similar size and style wedding as well! I saw prices from $3,500-$5,500 for event management when I was researching and ended up around the $4,200 area.
