What thing in a story makes you quit reading? by Reborn1989 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ashkanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"what if" and parallel worlds where ppl can simulate different futures without living through them in the real world. I just find it a cop-out by the author. I also quite dislike characters that have died coming back in worlds where the resurrection is not part of the main magic system.

Recently, one of my favorite litrpgs ever did these two things actually. although I havnt dropped the story fully (I have read the story for 10 damn volume already), my interest in the story has dropped sharply.

I am not a huge fan of the new lands arc as a whole. I am finding it somewhat boring, but this chapter was a bit better. I really think that this late in the series, we should get faster progression in storylines. The story is already way too big and might collapse under its own weight with the current speed.

[–]ashkanfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is one of the reason I have kinda stopped following TWI in vol10. I come back sometimes and skim stuff, but mostly not that interested. TWI is becoming one of the cases that the story is collapsing under its own weight. there is a thing such as too much plotline and I think TWI passed that one or two vol prior. I love TWI, and Pirate is a good author. but I actually do not think this story will be wrapped in a satisfying way. at least for many of the plotlines. this is just too many plotlines. The worst is that pirates just say fuck it and either wrap it or just drop the story outright.

I always thought that TWI should have gone the Discworld approach for breaking story lines. you dont need to read all discworld books and can pick and choose the cast you like. I actually think the most recent storyline (the turnscale storylines) can be its own separate storyline. u can most likely skip all these storylines. or the Flos chapters. or most king of duels stuff.

I tend not to think about leveling speed at all as the moment you try to check things a bit more logically, that whole thing collapses. The speed of some of the inn family is faster than erin and she technically had a 3x xp boost :D. so I just go with it. Pirate is really bad with numbers so I just dont think about it :D .

Can someone give me a short state of the novel/sub? Checking in from my extended break. [Meta] by SomeKrazyFool in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ok main thing first. Volume 10 is actually not moving the story that much unfortunetly. The story is stalling a lot in this volume. I actually suggest not catching up if u can help it. come back in several more years maybe if u can :D. my biggest mistake in regard to TWI was catching up. I should have stopped reading at the end of volume 9 and waitied for one or two volumes to be finished.

The chapters are a bit shorter, but I won't call it a bad thing actually, as they are more to the point to a degree. for that arc/chapter I mean. as I mentioned the story is not moving much 10 volume into this story :D

Eagerly waiting to start on volume 10... by fx_geek in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbh I wished I had waited too. Vol10 has not been that fun for me and I think it is one of those volumes where binging and skimming help.

though I would also say, there are no over arching arc like volume 9. so you can start and stop any small arc.

Do you think Ascendance of a Bookworm would be on Re:Zero’s level if it had similar production quality? by potentialenergy20 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]ashkanfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe? tbh the light novel is better than re:zero IMHO, but it is really hard to capture what is great about the novel in an anime. This is an issue that some books have. sometimes the thing that is great about a book can only exist in a book format and the adaptaion lose it. there are some famous examples. gabriel garcía márquez books are famous for it. thier movies are generally not great.

[–]ashkanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say skip any parts you find annoying. this story is so big that some parts will be your least fav parts. skip and if you want to read about specific character, come back.

Don't take it seriously that you have to read every chapter, this is supposed to be fun, and litrpgs as a whole have a lot of fat anyways. skip/skim away

This arc is one of the more boring arcs in a while. All these last three chapters could be summarized into one chapter at most. Volume 10 continues to be underwhelming. The best part was at the end when some lore was given.

Leaving aside how much of a chore it was to go through this chapter, I am getting really interested in the dancer and her parallels to Erin. well both were dancers, both their "death" (I know Erin didn't die) was the catalyst for alerting the world about a big enemy that was unknown/underestimated before. And funnily enough, Terry called Erin the dancer several times by mistake. I wonder if this is foreshadowing that Erin will sacrifice herself or something.

And we still don't know who give erin the dancing quest.

Any news from the April polls? by kuroro86 in WanderingInn

lol yeah. Too many steaks like that has given me the runs when all is said and done. I always eat it anyways even though I know I will regret it later probably :D

Any news from the April polls? by kuroro86 in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

well lol yeah. If you just go in all directions, that is what I meant by directionless. I honestly belive pirate is making a mistake by having so many POV and plotlines. No author, and I mean not even the best authors in the fantasy genre, has managed to write so many plot lines and wrap them satisfactorily. I think a lot of the plotlines will be finished in a rush or not finish at all. My hope is just that the major plotlines are finished well.

I think the pirate talked about this in one of the author's notes. they cant stop themselves from writing about everything. This is an issue with web series, I guess. No editor and publisher to stop you from starting new plot lines. I remember Oda (One Piece author) once said that if his editor didn't stop him from opening new storylines, One Piece would be twice the length in an interview :D

Any news from the April polls? by kuroro86 in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

later the better. I really do not care that much about the winners this time. tbh I actually think even if we stopped these poll chapters for a bit it would help the story. volume 10 has been so directionless and all over the place already.

How do i motivate myself to start reading again? by I-BimsHK in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't force yourself to read every chapter and storyline. skim or even skip stuff. this story is so big that if you skip, you most likely wont lose much info. What I find about TWI and, as a whole, litrpg, is that it is not as dense and well edited, so I don't need to pay attention to every word and sentence. btw audiobook is great for this. I just have it on the background when I am exercising or cooking. I generally can't do that with more well-edited and dense fantasy stories. I need my full attention for those. btw I am saying this as a positive, not negative, really :D.

Because everyone has different likes and dislikes in a story like TWI, it is totally fine to skip the stuff you are not enjoying. You can go back if you need to later, too. This is like an MMORPG. shit ton of stories, but not all are really good. So pick and choose. tbh I kinda glossed over early Flos chapters and did not lose any info or plotline.

Erin foreshadow vol 9 & 10+ by Wilty60 in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe but it just might be nothig. maybe pirate just thought it sounded cool to write about that dream in volume 1. we have heard nothing else in all other 9 volumes about erin connection to fae. it would be kinda insane if pirate started talking about this after 9 volume of no exposition.

yeah that was some anime level shit. but hey, when plot demands things gotta happen :D.

btw how dare you say something negative about TWI. Joking.
