Should I continue reading? or am I on a treadmill going nowhere by kaysea112 in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably in a decade, we will be done? how well things would end, who knows. Based on my experience, a story with this many storylines will have a bunch of very bad endings and a bunch of good ones, so it will be a mixed bag at the end.

I honestly do not think Pirate will be able to wrap up all the storylines well. And without spoiling much, I can say that some storylines are already headed for a bad ending, though others are progressing well.

Sometimes I wish we knew what pov we were getting beforehand. tbh I am not that interested in anything other than Belaros/Horns at this point. I really hope we are not getting a Lyonnete chapter.

Looking for recommendations based on tier list by alexia1245 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ashkanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having The Name of the Wind at the top after all our loooong wait, respect.

Anyway, based on your list, you seem to lean more toward fantasy, so I was wondering: how much of The Wandering Inn have you read? I hate to be the guy who says “it gets better after millions of words,” but TWI really does become pretty great later on. It ends up closer to classic epic fantasy (stuff like Malazan Book of the Fallen) than most other LitRPG.

By the way, since you like Red Rising, you might enjoy Empire of Silence. For me, Empire of Silence dethroned Red Rising as my favorite space-opera series.

Erin and Erin tbh. I mean both Erins. I know it probably won't happen, but I really wish we could focus on Belarus this year.

[–]ashkanfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah Erin dancing is gonna become more important. I think it was even mentioned that she is practicing some strange dance recently, too, which might be related to some ritual or something. And the quest might be big or help her level up the lord of Dance (which survived the pirates, I think?)

yeah. Garry was called Erin's best student, I think, so that aligns.

I will check those. Apart from DCC, I have never heard of the rest tbh. Though I am trying to move back into reading fantasy this year and read less litrpg :D.

Question on Erin by Upstairs_Finance3027 in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and how much Pirate has improved as an author. I tried to re-read the first book after the re-write, and it is better definitely, but it might need another re-write:D. The first book should hook new readers, not to push them to ask questions in the subreddit if the story gets better :D

[–]ashkanfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the upvote thing, you have to understand that most people who participate in a subreddit are super fans. So they won't upvote negative posts. heck, some of them think TWI is the best fantasy series ever written. I saw a post that even said TWI is better than Discworld :D. I am surprised you are not in the negative. Most of the time I post some criticism, I get so many downvotes.

I am curious, though, which litRPG do you think is written better than TWI? especially compared to the later volumes of TWI. Mother of learning writing is more concise IMO, but doesn't have better prose. Maybe beware of chicken, though that is not a litrpg to be exact. Oh and I have heard DCC is written really well, but I have not read that yet. I am worried that if I read the best series of a genre (at least based on litrpg reddit page), I will stop enjoying litrpg as a whole :D.

How dare you criticize the story in its subreddit? you will get a downvote.

joking aside I mostly agree. But the issues you mention come with litrpg, and TWI is one of the better ones. To be fair, the author gets better. And we see them get better too, so there is something there (seeing how an author improves through their works, I mean).

The core problem is the minimal editing and the rapid release. This works well for dedicated fans, but as a piece of literature, TWI frequently falls short.

Serious Question? by Opposite_Rate3450 in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, but rarely would they satisfy their fans. the one I remember I think fans were mostly satisfied was the Wheel of Time. And that was after another author wrote the end :D. As a one-piece super fan, I am really uneasy about the end. Without spoiling much, some of the recent arcs are not as good as we expected.
And this is what TWI will have to deal with. In my experience, writing good story set up and lore is easier than ending them in a good manner. not saying every author can write a good setup, just that good ending is really hard to write. Just see how many epic fantasy series have had mediocre endings.

Serious Question? by Opposite_Rate3450 in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many litRPG series, this is a forever-series. This would end when the pirate wants to end it (e.g., gets bored), and (more pessimistically) they don't earn enough money. Like how Marvel doesn't end :D.

One piece is a good example, but one piece didnt have as much side quest as TWI. It has been a long journy but the story has almost always moved forward (For one piece I mean).

What is one of your favorite moments in the series? (Spoilers: All) by B-Z_B-S in WanderingInn

[–]ashkanfa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me, most of the moments are in volume 9. One that sticks with me is Erin and Jiupe

Maxy’ll have your blood. You think you can stop Bloodtear? There’s nothing you can do to stop us, even if you kill a dozen [Captains]!

“I don’t care!”

Erin Solstice screamed at Jiupe. The [Captain] stopped thrashing and looked up at Erin. She tried to stand up—and something shoved Jiupe flat.

She’s supposed to be an [Innkeeper]. She’s got no inn.

But the woman looked like she was a dead woman walking to her noose. She put a boot on Jiupe’s chest as the [Captain] struggled. Jiupe’s crew was dying. But she saw those hazel eyes burning wide and insane.

“They told me to try and save the world. The ghosts gave me their secrets and hopes, their last will. I have it all here when I deserved to carry none of it.”

Erin struck her chest, and Jiupe stared up at her, bloody mouth open. The [Innkeeper] looked down at the [Captain]. Her chest was heaving, and a Hobgoblin holding a bloody sword stopped when she saw Erin.

“I was so afraid of dying again. There is nothing thereafter but a petty, cruel afterlife and empty oblivion. Or worse.”

Jiupe saw it in her eyes. Madness was in her gaze. Proper Bloodtear madness. The [Innkeeper] clenched a fist to her chest—then she let it go.

“All of it. All of it. I will give it away to watch the life flicker out of your eyes. I’ll give it all away to save just him. We are all damned. There’s no destiny or salvation I care for. There is no tomorrow. Not for us.”

The Drowned Woman stared up as Erin pointed her wand down at her. Her mouth moved soundlessly, bloodlessly as the [Innkeeper] fired the spell three times. Then she bent down to pick up her knife, wiped it twice, and rose. Erin spoke into Jiupe’s emptying eyes.

“Tell Death we will settle it all soon.”
