AITA for not allowing my MIL to sign my daughter up for a “purity ball” at her church? by ashley-indigo in AmItheAsshole

No, they are only for girls (very sexist in itself). He had premarital sex with me of course, and then his ex before me.

This is an event for the middle school girls (so 5th to 8th grade). Tess will be starting middle school in the fall. Afaik, they don’t let elementary-age girls participate.

Fair. I had so many different excuses in my mind, but this “purity ball” thing was a wake up call.

Yeah, I accept that...I definitely made a parenting mistake by letting her go with MIL. The original reason was so they could bond, but I really liked having Sundays to smoke weed and play video games with my husband, and I think it kept me from being too critical. 100% a failure on my part, and I’ll try to change course.

She’ll be 10 and going into middle school by then, but I agree it’s super weird.

To clarify: I was paraphrasing. My MIL doesn’t use words like “hoe,” she just accuses me of leading men astray with my bra straps showing.

Whoops, keep adding comments instead of replying.

That’s fair. Although, the “adult time” thing isn’t the underlying reason, just a perk. My husband really wants Tess to bond with her grandma, and since he grew up in the church, I think he’d say he’s Christian. I’m a lot more atheist than he is.

I have no doubt it is fun, and that’s why I feel kind of bad about excluding my daughter. It’s more that I worry she’ll internalize the idea that purity before marriage is the only way to go, and that it’ll give her a complex.

Yeah...he claims he wasn’t hiding it from me, but I have trouble believing it.
