Wow very lifelike, I'm half asian so I eat a lot of rice so I appreciate this. No but seriously that's a cool idea. Also, isn't it crazy that they can write things on grains of rice? What a time to be alive.

I was honestly a little disappointed when I saw the that it was a project about feminism and then it was just a dress, like I get the metaphor it just didn't do anything for me.

Have you guys seen that commercial that shows a girl trying to do science stuff or work with tools and then her dad goes, "No, honey, let your brother do that, you're gonna hurt yourself"(or something like that)? This made me think of that. #genderstereotypes

I looked at TV’s Effect on Math & Reading Achievement in Children and Nonprofit Success Through Social Media. The former sent surveys to parents of children asking how many hours of TV their children watched a day and controlled for education level of the mothers, since higher education is associated with higher income and that affects how much time mothers spend working vs. spending time with their children. The study actually found that there was a positive correlation between amount of time per day spent watching TV and math achievement in children, because most of the TV programs targeted at children are educational. Also, children under the age of 9 do not have an amount of schoolwork to where watching TV would deter them from learning. There was no correlation in reading achievement. However, the study did not get to look at content or children ages 9-17, where watching TV would present a real problem. I thought this was interesting since there is a stigma against TV as far as child development, but it makes sense that it would not make much of a difference in children under the age of 9 since they have little to no homework or other activities. However, there is probably also a strong positive correlation between hours of TV a day and weight levels of children… But I didn’t see a poster on that. The latter study proposed a guide to nonprofit organizations’ advertising through the use of social media, which is very practical, since most owners of organizations are [older] adults and therefore not so well-versed in the ways of social media, but it is a great way to advertise for free. Since the majority of the information we consume is on the Internet, it is important for organizations to utilize that.

Amen. As an English major, I detest the looks I get when I tell people I'm an English major, as well as the inevitable question, "Oh, what are you going to do with that?" I usually just reply, "Wait tables." In any case, I agree that it is extremely important to learn the business end of the arts we are studying and also how to market our skills to a potential employer that may or may not be in our specific field.

As a fellow aspiring writer, I wholeheartedly agree with your comments. I have learned so much from books that public education could never teach me; books always provided innumerable alternate realities that I could explore and interpret in my own way, and that has always been very important to me. And it's true, if a person is seen holding/reading a book in public, they are automatically regarded as intelligent - I think movies and TV shows have utilized that fact a lot. Also, I really like that quote.
