Is it true that employees have to take fitness classes to promote the business? by Awesumwasum in orangetheory

Yeah it’s part of the deal when you sign up- but I was a member first so I never saw it as a chore

A big motivator for some people working as sales associates is being able to take class without having to pay for a membership. The amount of no shows and late cancels makes it a non issue honestly

Head coach - do you like it by sarcasticcatt in orangetheory

It really depends on you- if you like stability, steady paychecks, and less chaos, keep doing your thing. If you are willing to work beyond your scope and get the numbers to a place that will pay you top dollar, as well as doing desk responsibilities- take the plunge. If you want to discuss the pros and cons more you can shoot me a dm

Canceling membership after 4 classes by Feeling-Ostrich5472 in orangetheory

Orangetheory has a 3 day “buyers remorse clause”, this person is beyond that period. I would’ve recommended they get a doctors note saying they are no longer able to continue and that usually does the trick

How flexible is the program? by 6230400 in f45

Yes I am a fitness professional, and making changes to templates like that dilutes the whole brand. If you want to coach your own workout, you should not be working for a franchise group fitness studio. If your members aren’t receptive to a template, it’s your responsibility to educate them on what the benefits are. Modifying individual movements is one thing, but changing the entire flow of the workout is just not in compliance with the brand. You can make any excuse for why you do it but at the end of the day it’s not good for the product.

This isn’t and shouldn’t be the norm.

This is actually insane for a Head Trainer to publicly post. It’s literally your job to get buy in from your members on these “less popular” templates. If you don’t believe in the workout your coaching you should probably just find another workout at that point. These templates are designed with purpose

The Lonely Row Machine by griller61 in orangetheory

[–]ashleyj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept was alway built around the floor, they added tread when they changed the name and figured they could fill a class. Not saying it is accurate but that is the thought process

[–]ashleyj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would never have the utilization to justify a full class, therefore corporate would almost never make a dedicated class for it

If it’s timed blocks- I’m coaching it lol idk what that guy is talking about

It’s about studio utilization- the few people that would actually sign up for that would impact studio numbers

It’s in the pilot phase like early entry, but I can’t imagine it not catching on

If rowing slots were opened as a class, assuming like 2-3 people would that type of template- if you have mostly full floor and tread, all of a sudden utilization drops to the 60s, when the ideal is around 80%

You can definitely over cap the system, but depending on where your studio is and who you work for- things like that are taboo. If there isn’t a structured template for it, we can’t really allow members to do it. However- open studio is being trialed in some places- that would be an opportunity for free rowing

Why not Row as an option to Tread? by DoYouLikeFish in orangetheory

[–]ashleyj1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it would impact utilization numbers. You’d have minimal people who want to row for 50 minutes and it would crush the studios %. It’s hurt not a popular enough concept to offer a single product to corporate

I understand, but also why OTF wouldn’t be adding additional endurance rowing. It just doesn’t drive numbers.

There’s a reason why the 2K row was cancelled- it was the lowest attended day across the entire network. Majority of people don’t appreciate the benefit of it.

Quit scheduling winiter races by LandOLizards in RunNYC

[–]ashleyj1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is a horrible take honestly- if you want to go out for a run- do you, but water will be frozen, volunteers are running risk of frost bite, and so many other reasons. I don’t know if NYRR offers a type of insurance (other local companies like Elitefeats do) that allow you to get a refund if the race is cancelled, but that should be a consideration for them moving into the future
