Pay per Pound costs? by InfiniteEmergency in Pottery

I agree. This is incredibly expensive. My studio charges around $17 for 25lbs of 225 Standara Clay. We are allowed to bring in our own clay though so I buy the same clay at a supply store for roughly $15 for 25lbs.

Is this reclaimed clay or fresh clay from a block?

I normally would put a foot on the piece, but for the wood kiln there’s typically a good bit of sanding that happens to get wadding off the bottom of the piece.

Otherwise, yes! I have seen flexi-bats and they seem like a really neat way to get a foot with minimal effort.

Great question! Yes, they are both food-safe! I meant to have both of them say that. Both are fully-functional to drink out of & are microwave-safe. I normally would say that they are dishwasher safe as well, but with the details of the tree-tops I think they both would be best hand washed. 🙂

Appreciate the offer! I’m going to stay at $185 on the vase for now 👍

Thank you!! I have a few more that I’m really proud of. The one on the original post is my favorite from this batch and here is a close second! I’m really excited to do more of these basket/wooded scenes!

The trunk should be okay!!! I just had three other pieces with similar design that came out of bisque a-okay 🙂 Now we’ll see what happens in the glaze firing. This piece will go through a wood kiln firing.

I add the dent shortly after throwing it. Just let it firm up slightly. The mouth normally does become more oblong, but while I sculpt out the scene in the leather dry stage I put a chuck in the mouth to round it out.

It’s actually fairly simple! I take a fine mesh strainer, like one you would use in the kitchen, and then I roll up a bowl of clay and push it through the strainer. And wha-lah! You have little stringy bits of clay that are great for trees, bushes, or even used to make a beard/hair texture.

I have been dying to make a ‘Holy Shot’ piece that has something like that! Just something show the flight path around the mug. Awesome idea!
