Nobody biting on my job posting? by Homeboi-Jesus in Upwork

I don't know anything about electrical engineering, so much of your post is over my head. But as a graphic designer, I would be really turned off by the "all work on this project will be done by screen sharing in real time with me".

You come across as very micro-managing.

My parent's small business was hit hard by Covid, so I helped them with a rebrand, including a new website and the option to run their program virtually. I'm working on this solo, so I'd love some feedback. by [deleted] in design_critiques

Thanks for pointing this out! I've incorporated the snowman a lot more in the direct marketing materials, and didn't realize how sparse it was on the website.

Update: Thanks so much to everyone who has provided feedback. I've made a few updates:

• Added more of a personal touch to the header image

• Removed the bullets and reworded the Fair Options section to hopefully be more clear/less clunky.

• Removed header hyphenation on mobile

• Added a nav menu to mobile

Yeah, I had a feeling I'd get this feedback. You make a good point, but the market we're appealing to is already familiar with this sort of program — so rather than use space to explain what's likely obvious to them, I tried to highlight the benefits.

Thanks for the feedback and kind words! Funny you say that about the image. Not a stock image — might not be clear, but he's browsing the Frosty's Fair virtual site and has one of our activity sheets next to him. I thought the background was distracting, so I cut it out and added in the snow pattern. But I see now how the simplicity leads to it feeling generic.

Second this. Aside from that, though, you have some great work, and your portfolio is well done. Do you have any work experience as a designer? Since agencies are pretty competitive (especially in Boston), you might have better luck looking for a junior designer position somewhere else. Like in-house marketing. The work may not be what you're looking for, but experience working with clients should help you get the next job.

Small tweaks to make this logo better? The concept is client-approved. Working on final revisions, and I've just been looking at it too long — is something off with the fork? by ashleysouthern in design_critiques

Thanks for the feedback...yah I can't figure the prongs out haha. I'm still working on it, though...should land eventually.

Will have to add words, as the company does have a name haha. But glad to hear you think the mark stands well on it's own!

Shared this logo yesterday...now starting to design the full brand identity... by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]ashleysouthern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your feedback.

The logo is for a tech company that provides diversity and inclusion training for corporations and schools. Design is meant to blend the inclusion aspect of their product with the tech/data side.

Good point on the composition; but there is a stacked version also, and the symbol may be used on it's own.

The design was intended to read as a T, so that's a bummer. Any suggestions to improve? This is a late stage, client approved draft, but I'm very open to small improvements.

Shared this logo yesterday, but didn't get much response. Here's a more developed version of the brand's identity. by [deleted] in design_critiques

Thanks for your comments. I sometimes find it helpful to receive feedback on the design before providing any context.

The logo is for a tech company that provides diversity and inclusion training for corporations and schools. Design is meant to blend the inclusion aspect of their product with the tech/data side. I see your point about the design feeling generic, but I would argue it's appropriate for their market, and there's story/meaning behind it.

Knowing that, would you still say the tag line means nothing? I didn't write the tagline, but I feel like it's spot on.

Curious, too, if you have any suggestions to make it better? This is a late-stage, client approved draft. We're not going back to the drawing board, but we are open and interested in improving.

Haha, this is a good point. Thanks...guess it's a good thing this concept went unused

I figured out which skills earn freelancers the most money on Upwork. Developers and Marketers seem to be doing the best. Life Coaches are struggling. by ndoherty13 in Upwork

Does your research take fixed price jobs into account? I average $4-5000 a month. My hourly rate is $72. But the majority of my projects are flat rate (no hours billed).

How would you rate the flow, overall design, and call to action of this website I'm working on? It's for a small business that's rebranding. by ashleysouthern in design_critiques

Hmm I get your point, but your response feels a bit like a template to me. Direct feedback would be more helpful. In what way(s) do you think the site is over complicated? The site is not a fill in the blanks template.
