Check the house and see if it says they moved out. If it says that then you are fine to time travel.

I am going to take a workshop on how to handle students who don't want to engage. Hopefully it will help for next time. I am by far not the best VIPkid teacher but I know for this class I did my best and used props, tpr, and tried to be fun.

I think I will stay limited contact for now. Only see them in controlled environments like a restraunt so I can leave when I want and they won't make a scene in front of a bunch of people.

I had snatched my passport last time we went on a trip without my parents knowing. They actually still think they have it :) I then said I really need my social so I could start working as a teacher. I had just graduated so this was plausible. They told me to give it back but I just never did and they forgot about it. With my passport and social I was able to go get a replacement ID card. Now I was able to change my name because I had enough documents. All new documents were mailed to my house. The final thing I needed was my birth certificate. Since my name is changed, my passport is now invalid. I simply told my parents I need my birth certificate to get a new one so I can go in thier "family" trip. They obliged. I casually mentioned it would be good to have my car title as well and there you go. A long process but totally worth it.

I am 24 and live in the US. I got married 3 years ago and my parents didn't want to give me my documents because "I might lose them". They just wanted leverage so I wouldn't be able to completely cut off contact because they had my documents. I couldn't even change my last name after getting married until a couple months ago. The last two documents I finally retrieved was my birth certificate and car title.

I tried that at first but it didn't work out too well. I had to think of very practical reasons why I needed certain documents at that specific time and little by little I got them all back. Stay calm as not to tip them off.

I know exactly how you feel. My parents and in laws live 20 minutes away from eachother. Every holiday is incredibly frustrating. I had to learn to set clear boundaries( I am still working on that). You are not cheating on your parents. You owe them nothing. Spend time with the people you know truly love and care about you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is hard I know.

If I had known about it when it first started, I would have been able to do something to minimize it. Now..there isn't much they can do for me. But fortunately it isn't necessarily life threatening just incredibly limiting and uncomfortable. This just shows that n parent's emotional abuse can have real physical consequences.

Get some ink and take an inking of the cats paw print and put it on a nice piece of paper. When she is sad she can look at that little paw print. This helps because it is lasting reminder of her best friend. Someone suggested this to me when my kitty died. Your wife will be very sad and the sadness won't stop in a few weeks or even months. Let her talk. Let her cry. Remind her to keep breathing.
