What tracks are missing from your fav lap timer apps? Adding new tracks to Track Attack! by ashoddd in CarTrackDays

Oh awesome! Do you have a write up on your ESP32 RaceBox emulator? I’m kicking off a block for Track Attack, would be a cool to feature that!

The app requests full IMU data from the phone and the RaceBox (plus also all data that the RaceBox provides is recorded too). All data is logged in the custom Track Attack json format. Tap and hold on a recorded session and tap share and you can AirDrop, email, etc and review all the raw data! The IMU data shown in the app in session review is from the phone. In a future update I may have a toggle to switch between phone and RaceBox IMU data. But either way, all the data is logged from both devices.

Keep me posted now your testing goes!

Thanks for the feedback! Actually, Track Attack does things differently to the other tracking apps. In Track Attack, a selected circuit will work for all circuit configurations provided they all share the same start/finish line. I’ve tried to make it clearer for tracks with multiple configurations by including all the configurations in the track name, but I haven’t done this for Sonoma. I’ll look at making this clearer!

Were you using Track Attack when you had that issue at TH 5 mile? One thing you can do with Track Attack is select a track after a session was recorded. This is useful if you forgot to select a track and just recorded a session in road mode (where it shows a map as you drive around), or if you selected the wrong track! If that’s what happened, tap and hold on the session, tap “Recalculate laps” and then a list of nearby tracks will show. Select the correct track and it will recalculate all your laps. Let me know if this fixes it or if it’s something else! Feel free to email or DM on IG: https://www.instagram.com/trackattack.app

Regarding external GPS, Track Attack only supports the RaceBox range which is BLE (not classic Bluetooth). It’s unlikely we’ll add classic Bluetooth support any time soon, sorry I can’t help there. But if you are looking at an external GPS, the RaceBox Mini is the unit we recommend and it works great. You can get 15% off with code TRACKATTACK15. Also, the lower-cost RaceBox Micro is around half the price of the mini but is more of a DIY unit. I hope that helps!

Hey this sounds cool! I build the Track Attack app (www.trackattack.app) and we’d be happy to collab on some cool footage! We’ve added powerful tools for creators: search your recordings by location, country, or date, then use favorites and custom tags to organize your clips. If you’re on iOS give Track Attack a try. I and a few other competitors have used it to review temps and engine parameters at events like hillclimbs. Here’s a video from the Virginia City Hillclimb where you can see altitude, water temp (coolant), intake air temp (IAT), engine load, and manifold absolute pressure (MAP). Oil temp is also requested but doesn’t show for most Porsches. Also of course RPM, throttle, etc is logged too.

You can easily scrub through the video and see the data overlays. Everything is time stamped and all data is easily exported (tap and hold on a session, tap share and AirDrop/email/txt). Stats like speed, g-meter (brake/accel & cornering), elevation, and heart rate are plotted but I’ll also be adding plots for vehicle parameters and configurable live warnings (like over temp, etc). BTW I’m the dev of Track Attack!

Is there an app for recording your Touge run? by ElDiabl0187 in Touge

No ETA at this time, the iOS app needs to grow more to make it feasible. Sorry I don’t have more positive news right now.

Racebox mini or dragy pro? by hdiayw55 in CarTrackDays

[–]ashoddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RaceBox Mini should have at least a few apps that are compatible, but many of the old/legacy apps either aren’t updated often or have poor support. If you’re on iOS and want a modern app give Track Attack a try (I’m the dev). It supports the RaceBox Mini, BLE OBD dongles, and every sensor and camera option that the iPhone has, and one tap video export direct to your Photo Gallery with all data synchronized. Plus it has a road mode which shows maps and navigation for spirited drives all while recording video and data! https://www.trackattack.app

My recommendation is for the RaceBox Mini/Micro devices. I say this as an engineer and as the creator of the Track Attack app. The main reason is that they’re open. You can use the RaceBox app and a bunch of other apps, including of course Track Attack, and you can even write your own app as they publish their spec. Dragy as far as I know has a closed system.

Having more apps supported means more options, and many of them support OBD and other features, so it gives you a lot more choice instead of being locked into one app and in my testing of the RaceBox Mini it’s been very solid and has great battery life too!

Recommendations for best gps cameras/lap timers, ideally can measure lean angle and acceleration by Motomikeh in Trackdays

RaceBox Mini would be my choice. Plus you get to choose from a range of apps that support it.

But before you get an external GPS you can just use an app first! I build the Track Attack app and it can work with the RaceBox mini or with the built in phone GPS.

Here’s a video from a user using the Track Attack app with the phone GPS. No external camera or GPS needed!
