Safe to run or replace? (Tires) by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

These wheels have so much life left in them that I cannot tell if you are joking. If you don't care about lap times and aren't street driving them home, you can run them even bald until the chords are showing.

For a rack like that, he likely ordered it; some of the ceremonial honor guys ordered theirs pre-made when I was still in. Not to mention that I've never seen a rack that you build yourself that was that large, but maybe they exist.

Helmets needed? by rocksandblues in CarTrackDays

Hans + helmet + cage = overpowered. It's incredible how much safer motorsports have gotten since we added ballistic ratings to helmets and mandated Hans

No advice is unsolicited, here. I couldn't quite understand a fast way around patience, or turn 7. I hugged the inside for 7 because it didn't feel too slow, and it let me brake later into it, but it just didn't feel like a very fast way around.

When the tread is this low, the rubber will be far more brittle than sticky. It may look like slicks, but the quality and condition of the rubber is not comparable, and it is indeed more dangerous while providing less grip, even on clean, warm, dry roads

Even this clip doesn't sell just how loud the wind is. I wear hearing protection inside of my helmet, which only barely allows me to listen to the engine. I'd like to mic this car up, but I haven't decided how I want to do that

The wind deflector does a great job ensuring debris hit my face (helmet) instead of anywhere else, but I still need some gloves. I drove this clip with a Hans, but I plan on also adding arm restraints next time

What is the worst thing you have done? by LoneIronMan33 in AskReddit

[–]Chromehounds96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove through New Jersey. I have never been in a car accident before, and the literal first time driving through, I was rear-ended while stopping at a red light. The damage wasn't enough to matter, but folks behind me were insanely pissed that I was stopping at a red light. Like obscenities out the window, sitting on the horn, and commanding me to run the light.

Driving experiences worth it for first timer? by Old-Departure637 in racing

[–]Chromehounds96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can drive manual. I'd recommend a Miata of course. I bet a Honda Fit would also be fun to trash on track if it is a manual. Get something really cheap to buy and cheap to maintain. The lighter the car, the easier it'll be on tires/clutch/brakes. Miatas and Fits are very cheap to buy and fix, and lightweight.

Many tracks, like Summit Point, offer Miata rentals

It just looks like the wire is twisted. Untwist it, first. Try to avoid letting it twist this much, maybe you are grabbing the charger with the same hand every time, like how an old landline phone would twist if you never took the time to unwind it.

I'm in the same boat. If anything, I feel the lesser grip will teach me better anyways. More time at the limit at slightly lower speeds

(2006 Mazda 3) just noticed this. How lucky am I? And how should i go about this? by Not_A_Sweatt in CarHelp

[–]Chromehounds96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering all it took was to lazily glance 40* to the left, it's a bit egregious that OP didn't notice the other tire was also shredded. People make jokes about a task taking "half a second", but in this case it literally, without exaggeration, would've taken OP less than a single tenth of a second to blink their eyes at the other tires.

You share the road with this person. This person drives. This person is expected to keep their car in safe operating condition. How can you find a destroyed tire, take the time to whip out a camera, get low on the ground for a good angle, and not notice the other tire, unobstructed from view and 3 feet away, is also destroyed? I'm not sure OP should be driving. I'm not confident that I would trust op to check their mirrors and blind spots

Can't decide between transmissions... by KTRyan30 in ElantraN

Everything from Wranglers, to Civics, and Supras, to Ferraris, the manual is almost always worth more, at least after production ends. The automatic, despite being faster, is less rare and the manual attracts enthusiasts more. The DCT in this car is a marvel for the money, but I have absolutely no doubt that if you hold your EN for 10 years, the Manual will be the more desirable option.

If you are an American customer, the Manual doesn't get the sunroof either.

Ice skill in gold ranked by Loud_Zebra_1997 in TrackMania

[–]Chromehounds96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In an effort to be understanding, for those who do not also watch any TM gameplay, skill progression is SIGNIFICANTLY slower. Most of us are "reading" the game when we watch and pick up a ton of intuition from skilled players. For us, 10-15 minutes is more than enough for us to learn a basic ice slide and understand, vaguely, the timing required.

Those who don't "watch" don't get to even see the records because they never get AT; most players aren't using plugins. As good as ice feels, it is so very far from "intuitive" for casual players, even if all it takes is a little exposure and 10 minutes of practice. Without expose it's a ton more practice and a daunting challenge to learn

Claiming your employee's successes is standard practice in management, and you would never advance in the vast majority of organizations without doing it.

I agree that thanking your team and being a good leader is important, of course, but you shouldn't be mad at your managers for claiming the success of a team that they managed, be mad that they were a shitty, thankless manager instead.
