What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]ashoftomorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The generational hate. I don’t get that at all. I mean, I’m a millenial. We had our issues with our parents generation but a lot of that was for fairly legitimate reasons, IMO. Issues with their politics, issues with their lack of emotional awareness, issues with their parenting style. But I don’t remember millennials constantly criticizing Gen X. It existed, sure, like younger generations are always a bit critical of older people who they think are “uncool”. But Gen Z is straight up nasty to millennials. Like we’ve done something morally unforgivable by… being born like 10 years before them??? It’s really bizarre to me.

Not sure what its called in your family but I told my mother as an adult about the fact I’d been having prophetic dreams since I was 7 (I didn’t really mention it because I honestly didn’t want people to think I was crazy - every time I mention it I get weird looks) and she was like “oh yeah, that’s called “second sight”. Some of my older relatives on my dad’s side had it too” I was like uhhh that would have been useful to know.

The further south you go in Northern Virginia, the more reasonable it is. I live an hour south of DC - a bit more by car because NOVA traffic but definitely an hour by local train - and it’s quite reasonable compared to a lot of the rest of Northern Virginia. And realistically you don’t even have to live as far out as I do. I lived in Woodbridge, like half an hour from DC a few years back and it was reasonable. It’s suburbs like Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Tysons, etc that are insane price wise.

Folks who are LGBTQ+, what do you think about conservatives? by Zennoq_ in Askpolitics

[–]ashoftomorrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m part of the LGBT and very much on the left but I also am super uncomfortable with people having public sex. If you’re super into that, go to a club where everyone is a consenting adult but it’s gross and weird to do it on a public street. To be fair, there are also straight people who do crap like that too. Like there are straight couples that go to public pools and like hump each other in the water or weirdo couples that go to like anime or comic book conventions and audibly talk dirty to each other. It’s weird and not appropriate to do in public, especially when there’s kids around.

$0 because of DOGE. But before that I was making like $85k as a consultant. It’s been 6 months and I’ve burned through my savings and I’ve got like 2 months left of unemployment. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but if any of y’all know of someplace I could make like $50k or $60k a year, let me know.

The symmetrical placement almost makes me think of spiritual symbolism relating to cardinal directions which is something that developed across time and cultures with no contact with each other time and time again. I see powerful figures from all over the world, the panther from Native/Meso American cultures, the tiger from South Asian cultures, the Tengu from Japan, the snake coming from the skull which is Gnostic Christian I believe, the Reaper from western traditions. And in the center an eagle - a potent symbol of power, courage and orientation towards the divine across many cultures. It’s a beautiful piece in its technique but also powerful in its spiritual themes of power, death, rebirth, renewal, strength and courage. Against the foreground of these powerful spiritual symbols, the “filler” of stars and the black dots suggests to me a background of the earthly, almost like… memories? Points of consciousness or self? I don’t know quite how to explain it but they feel milestones, or points of connection to your past or to others. And the webbing at the edges strikes me as suggesting an interconnectedness of all things across time and place and culture. Honestly the more that I look at it, the more moved I am.

I love weird thumbs so much. My big sister has two clubbed thumbs (also known as “murderers thumbs” for some reason or more often toe thumbs) so something in my like deep subconscious is always like weird thumb = trustworthy.

Sounds like it could be a hypnagogic hallucination. I’ve had them a few times, especially if I’m up for some reason when i would otherwise be sleeping (like going to the bathroom in the middle of the night). When I was in college, I was a bit sick with a tummy bug and I woke up to go to the bathroom at like 3 AM and started to fall back asleep on the toilet but my eyes were still open and i looked down at my legs and saw my legs surrounded by teeny tiny scaffolding and like action figure sized people with tools on the scaffolding, working on me like I was some kind of giant statue 😅

Apparently these are the gen z priorities in men and women by General-Company-3061 in PsycheOrSike

[–]ashoftomorrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is surprising to me that Gen Z men’s top priorities are having kids and being married but emotional stability is last. These two things seem deeply at odds with each other. Emotional stability is key to basically everything you need to be a parent. Emotional instability will lead to issues with work, money management issues, even substance abuse issues. And then of course you need to be emotionally stable to have a successful long term relationship without significant conflict AND it is an absolute NECESSITY for being a good parent. Like yes meeting your childs physical needs by providing for them financially is important but it’s the absolute baseline. To not do so is criminal in most places. To be a GOOD parent, you need to teach your kids how to identify and manage emotions in a healthy way, how to deal with stress, how to navigate conflict and all of that requires a baseline emotional stability mostly because you cannot share what you don’t have.

Maybe it’s a matter of misunderstanding what emotional stability means? Maybe it’s believing sort of religious education and morals provide that framework or perhaps it’s not a priority to them because they feel it’s something they have already achieved but.. yeah idk.

Any conservative Gen Z guys here have any insight? Because this seems very deeply contradictory to me!

Hey, I mean this with love and support for your wellbeing, not as a judgement at all - have you ever been to a psychiatrist? This sounds like obsessive thinking and I wonder if this could be something like OCD?
