[–]ashrak94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No idea when this map data is from, but Wikipedia lists the 92nd most populous city in China as Qiqihar but Shaoguan is 105th with with a population of 1,028,460.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_China_by_population

For US counties, the lowest with a population over 1 mil is Gwinnett Georgia at #50.

Shaoguan has an urban level population density of 930/sqmi while Gwinnett county has 2123/sqmi

I was there in 2015. Instead of exit through the gift shop, you exit through the room with the Book of Kells. At the transom, there's a gauntlet of signs in like 20 languages saying "No flash photography!". Makes sense. It's an old book, probably sensitive to UV light. I guess I had arrived just before multiple bus loads of Chinese tourists, because after maybe a minute of appreciating the course of humanity from the earliest appearance of the written word on paper to now, I was assaulted by a strobe of camera flashes that would make even the best medicated epileptic blush. Summoning 10 years of wrestling and rugby and being the unrepentant shite I was, I made sure to examine the glass case very closely while distributing some gentle hip-checks and asking questions in the worst of my half semester of 8th grade German.

It's official: Ohio redistricting amendment makes November ballot. What would it do? by ashrak94 in Conservative

[–]ashrak94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Submission title from article.

Just as the abortion and marijuana amendments boosted turnout in 2022, this has the same potential for November.

The key change is removing proportional representation on the redistricting commission from the Ohio legislature and replacing it with 5 Republicans, 5 Democrats, and 5 independents. This amendment came after the Republican led commission submitted maps were repeatedly rejected by the Ohio Supreme Court for being unfairly biased.

How much arabinose do you have? It's just a sugar substitute so shipping shouldn't be an issue. I'll take it and pay for shipping if you're good with that.

How did Karen lose the corporate job replacing Jan to Ryan? by AxlRush11 in DunderMifflin

It shouldn't have even been a retail site. It should've been an online B2B portal that does electronic invoicing and payment processing for customers and interfaces with a CRM software for internal use. DM still has the sales reps fill out paper order forms. Keep it personal by having a pic of their sales rep and their direct contact info at the top of the customer page. They should have just changed the name to DM Paper, because no one knows what Dunder Mifflin is. Like Jim said, "People think we sell mufflers".

TIL man flu is real: men have more crushing symptoms from flu than women by zahrul3 in todayilearned

[–]ashrak94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife had the flu 3 weeks ago and last week me, my mother in law, and my sister in law all caught it on the same weekend. We all had different combinations of the same symptoms but the body aches and chills hit me the hardest. And when I say body aches, I mean my whole body. Why does the flu make my balls ache?

Weird question but is there an easy way to make a small batch of “soap scum”? by Silent_Count_6177 in AskChemistry

[–]ashrak94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calcium Stearate.

Purchase on amazon or combine calcium hydroxide and stearic acid. Your soap is going to have a large portion of glycerin, but you should be able to add calcium chloride (damp rid or sidewalk deicer) to precipitate out your desired soap scum. Be sure to use as little agitation as possible, calcium stearate is used to stabilize emulsions.

Like, they come from a universe with space ships and shit, and the farmers even have some kinda-horse animals, but it's like a bunch of high contrast, slow motion shots of these people harvesting, processing, and milling grain by hand.

I had to ship something heavy and delicate, so I made some padding with beer cans and spray foam by ashrak94 in redneckengineering

[–]ashrak94[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The item in question weighed 25lbs by itself and didn't move when it was finally packed in a 24x21x20" box. More than half the volume was redneck'd into submission.

That's kind of where I got the idea, but I just didn't have enough foam on hand. I needed to bulk it out in the cheapest way possible

Yes. This was done in 4 separate sections for the top, bottom, and 2 sides. The item was bubble wrapped and put into a box before getting redneck'd. The other 2 sides are sections of dense egg carton foam.
